For those who think Moore is pocketing all the profits

Reeder, there’s a big difference between gross and net. The entertainment industry has shamelessly exploited this difference. Many big budget motion pictures make very little actual profit at the end, even though everybody with an interest in the film obviously gets their cut.

I know a man who sold his life story to the movies without fully understanding this distinction. He agreed to take a share of the net profits. The movie was a huge hit, but he made surprisingly little money.

So, when you say Moore is just, “making a salary”, well, that’s a structured part of the gross deal. Only smart Hollywood business. Moore will do quite well with this film.

Not to impugn him, but don’t read too much into this.

Your friend shouldn’t feel too much a fool over this; even if he’d understood the difference, there’s little chance he ever could have gotten a share of the gross. Studios don’t give out gross points freely. A big name star or director might be offered a cut of the gross, but it’s quite rare for anyone else to be given anything better than a percentage of the net.

Now all I need to see is a tax-and-spend libertarian and I can die complete…

That’s got to be one of the funniest rejoinders ever.

Exactly!

The most creative minds in Hollywood are the accountants.

So that’s the conservative definition of “objectivity” – “blindly going along with whatever your political leaders tell you to believe”! Thanks for the tip, Brutus!

Wasn’t that when George H. W. Bush told them “Rise against Saddam and the US will support you!” – and then failed to do so?

Regarding the OP, Charities…yeah. Like the Michael Moore Real Estate Foundation*

It’s fictional, relax Reeder.

Well, my point to millroyj was that all democrats are not the same, as all republicans are not the same and all libertarians are not the same. There can be, and should be, disagreements between individuals about how to acheive their similar goals.** Millroyj** likes to use the false dilemma.

Vive la France!

Thanks, guys. And thanks for the statue, too.
Hope liberating your country in the 1940’s at the cost of thousands of American lives was an adequate expression of our gratitude.

Hey, they helped us get liberated from the British, remember?

Helped? That’s like saying that Elton John helped Bernie Taupin produce his songs.

We went to war to save France? I thought it was to keep Hitler of our own doorstep and preserve our own way of life.

Yep, Michael Moore is getting richer and richer by the minute.

The movie was not even entertaining, by any means, but it was a “must see” for all liberal followers, and a “let’s check out the BS” for all conservatives.

How could one NOT see it???

Yes, Michael Moore is going to be incredibly rich. And at what cost?

An answer for posterity, which in the past has been woefully ignored after the fact.

Sleep well, on your silk sheets, Michael.

Because they think this way:

I will not put forth any serious effort to find a job until one of my parents pays for my car insurance. I’m prepared to wait until hell freezes over.

I’m not going to lie to any potential employers about having reliable transportation. I know for a fact that I can’t rely on my dad’s girlfriend to drive me to work. If she couldn’t take me to the math final which was a matter of me passing or failing, then I know that a time will come where I will beg her to take me to work and she won’t be able to. I KNOW that my transportation is unreliable.

I’ll sit in this basement until I’m 40 if I have to. Until I taste freedom I won’t know what I’m working for anyway so what’s the point? Give me a reason to work other than to stop you yelling at me for not working. That’s the bottom line.

Four less years of Bush in the White House? Sounds more than fair to me!

Hear, hear!

Gee, and here I thought Republicans liked the idea of a guy with humble beginnings pulling himself up by his bootstraps to become successful. Y’know, the whole Horatio Alger, “America is a land of opportunity” bit.

Or are you admitting that you’re just an anti-American hypocrite?

Hitler was not yet a threat to us. Japan was. We would have been more efficient if we fought the Japanese first, then turned to Europe when we were done.
But Europe needed us.
Read your history books.

Gee, you’re sounding just like a Republican: “Why do you hate America so much?”

I’m admitting that Michael Moore is getting rich by promoting falsehoods, deception and misdirection sprinkled with a little truth. Not too different than all the rest of the “elite.”

So, MM found out the formula for success. Tell people what they want to hear instead of “the whole truth and nothing but the truth.”

Now Michael is one of those elite that he rails against. Wish he had a clone to do an exposé on him!

I despise Bush for making money on lies.
I despise Moore for making money on lies.
I despise Kerry for making money on lies.

I applaud anyone who gets rich using the principles of helping his/her fellow man/woman or of spreading Truth.

Yes, I’m an idealist.
I’m not a Republican.
I used to be a Democrat, till Clinton…

I’m NOT so naieve as to be snowed by Michael Moore.

I did. Japan was allied to Germany long before they attacked us. The three Axis allies were invading pretty much anywhere they could with not that much resistance and didn’t look like they had any intention of stopping. It was in* our * best interests to stop Germany, even before one of it’s principal allies attacked us
