For volcano watchers - maybe you'll get lucky! {Kilauea may be erupting}

That link I posted before is no longer live. They kept it going for about 12 hours and halted it. If you visit now, you’re getting the replay.

This one is apparently live for now, and no eruption is happening, nor any activity in the last few hours that I scanned back for.

Looks like Episode 19 is working up to starting in the next few hours (as currently predicted). There is erratic, but increasing, spatter.

The interesting thing is that flaming, which I have not seen before, is happening now. Cool!

Here where I am it’s now at 9am US Eastern time on Thu.

It’s mid afternoon at Etna. Steaming/smoking but not with any vigor. It’s otherwise a lovely sunny day there.

it’s ~3am at Kilauea. The V1 cam shows continuous spattering and flaming from the vent closest to the cam. No great amount of smoke/steam, but what there is is well-lit by light from both vents. The V2 cam shows total blackness. But the clock is counting with an accurate current time, so it seems the camera and feed are live.

I was just coming in to report the same. There is light spatter on V1. V2 appears to be fogged over again.

I see some low fountains on V1 and the occasional glow in the mists on V2. Unfortunately, I have to run off now. I bet the excitement will begin as soon as I leave.

It’s overflowing the vent now. v1 camera has the best visibility.

Annnd already draining back in right now.

Dammit, Pele! Make up your mind!!!

… and now it’s bloopy and about to overflow again. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Spewing and overflowing nicely now. 5 minutes ago it was sputtering and the net flow was inwards.

10:30 here in the UK (23:30 local time) , and it’s projectile vomiting nicely !

It’s putting on a good show now. For once, V2 isn’t all fogged up.

And now (12 noon Fri Eastern time) it’s done. Or at least on :pause_button:. Glowing but motionless lava across the larger crater floor, steam / smoke from the vents, and that’s it.

Maaaybe there’s simmering and splorting in the vent closest to the v1 cam. The steaming / smoking there is more vigorous and coming more in puffs than a flow. Which suggests to me a roiling red cauldron down inside that little cone that we can’t see.

Here’s hoping we get off :pause_button: and get back to :play_button:.

There’s some sputtering and spitting on the V1 & V2 cameras.

And now it’s overflowing the vent.

And it’s done.

And it’s back.

The recent pattern is very much off-again, on-again.

Absolutely stunning right now. We just contemplated going to see it live, but opted against it - in the 2-3 hours it would take us to eat, drive up* there, park, and walk to the viewing area, it might stop for all we know. And I have a busy day tomorrow so need my sleep tonight. And we’ve already been to see a couple of the episodes.

I know, we’re spoiled.

*My instinct is to say “down” to the volcano, because we live NORTH of where the eruption is happening and basically drive due south to go see it. But the locals think that is hilarious, because elevation-wise, the volcano is indeed up. But it is such a gradual slope, it isn’t like climbing Mt. Washington or anything. The grade is fairly modest along a long stretch of highway.

Anyhow, I still struggle with it. I guess I should just say “over to” the volcano.

It really is captivating. The far side is a torrent!

I hope you can go and send a report. I wonder what it smells like

Wow, that’s a great pic! no wonder you considered driving over to see.

And now, 6 hours after @CairoCarol’s post, there’s just a bit of illuminated steam / smoke and stationary lava with some glowing spots outside the two vents on v1 cam, and total darkness on v2 cam.
