Would you believe all three are up now?
V1
V2
V3
V1 is up, started 18 hours ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXKuUyKt8mc
And so is V2, sometime in the day before that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tz5tPqRRv1Y
ETA: Shakes fist @Maus_Magill
Ahh, I used my existing links to the specific youtube stream pages. Which links have changed; the newly repaired cams have different stream urls than the old ones did.
I did check just before posting. But not in the right place. ![]()
Thanks all!
ETA: Where do you easily find the url of the current stream of any given camera? Clicking on the map at the HVO website is kinda awkward and tends to give you stills from the vid cams, not a link to the livestream.
Before the last ones broke, each youtube description had current links to the other cams they were keeping updated. Right now, the link on the v3 cam is correct for v1, but not v2. But I searched Hawaii volcano v2 and youtube showed me the right current url.
I always go to https://www.youtube.com/@usgs/streams and then select the camera.

Latest weekly news here: USGS Volcano Notice - DOI-USGS-HVO-2026-04-01T20:15:04+00:00. Punchline being current forecast for next fountaining is Apr 6-14. The forecast seems to be slowly sliding into the future at the rate of not quite 1 day per day. So we’re getting closer, but at no great rate.
It’s started to flow already. Big Island News link.
I’m a bit surprised it’s been going already. But I’m happy about it. FWIW now (Sat 4/4 at 0900ET = 0300HT there’s steam / smoke & glow, but no lava flow.
In other volcano news, here’s an outtake vid from a webcam aimed at the very active Fuego volcano in Guatemala. Which did a spectacular if brief explosive eruption on the night of Apr 3.
The big action is all in the first few seconds, then there’s a lull for a minute or so, then more action. So don’t get bored and click away halfway through or you’ll miss a bunch of the show. This volcano definitely behaves differently than Kilauea.
The text under the vid is misleading; it says that’s the livestream. Nope, it’s an outtake from the livestream. The livestream itself is here:
Their (AfarTV) channel has lots of Fuego outtakes. It does something interesting about weekly.
HVO today announced that the next predicted fountaining episode is expected between now and Apr 15th. As of now Wed 4/8 @ ~1600ET = 1000HT there is continuous oozing from one vent with a continuous simmering bubble of lava rising above the vent flow. This oozing flow appears to have gotten underway about 2 hours ago. Right now V3 has a good view while V1, V2, & B1 are all mostly fog & mist.
There’s no assurance this will develop directly into fountaining; it may subside to a nothing again for a few days before the main event.
Here’s hoping for a good show whenever we get it.
Starting up again! (April 9, about 11:30 am HST)
Yaay! So we all have almost 12 hours from now to rewind and still be able to see the start. At the outset both vents were flowing a bit. But here ~25 minutes in, the south vent (right side on v3 cam) is getting all the flow.
Now all three cams have a good view and the sound on both V1 & V3 is clear.
Ugh, they’ve already closed the highway and we got a Civil Defense warning about ash and tephra. Pele is getting mean! The last eruption was nasty to clean up from, even 40 miles away. I hope this one isn’t as bad, but it looks and sounds like it will be.
Plus we’re having a major windstorm (the palms are swaying like crazy even as I type). Dunno what effect that may have.
I just checked the cams. V2 is directly downwind; you can’t see any red lava for all the falling cooled tephra between the cam and the fountain. I suppose its future is measured in hours … again.
Another violent storm coming/here. Wind warnings, heavy rain on top of the last two storms, from the south west pushing the fallout over more populated areas. I’m on Oahu in an area not usually subject to heavy rains; expecting around 10 inches the next few days![]()
Right now the fountaining has noticeably declined in height. This might be a short episode.
The B1 cam is positioned where the lava flow is mostly towards the camera. So you get a good look at that aspect of the episode. Lotta fast moving volume. Very pretty.
As I type this V1 is my favorite – one lava flow is close and you can see another. V2 you can see two flows but farther away. V3 you can see 1 flow, but it is closer to it than V1.
The flows are moving quite fast.

Stay safe and dry(ish) if you can! Oahu and Kauai seem to be getting the worst of the weather.
ETA: Just got a notice that all libraries on Oahu are CLOSED tomorrow out of weather concerns. Yikes.
And around 1940HT on Thu = 0140ET on Fri this episode #44 came to an end. So roughly 8-1/2 hours of fountaining. Sigh.
I’ve really enjoyed this last year-plus of semi-regular activity. Although the folks who have to clean up after each episode probably enjoy it less. I hope these shorter episodes aren’t a sign that the overall eruption is winding down.
Seems like the episodes are lasting for shorter periods of time and are spaced farther apart, so maybe things are winding down? The maximum fountaining heights are still going strong, though. I guess we’ll see.
The very rainy weather is probably a plus for some of us (not for anyone facing the possibility of serious flood damage, of course). Yesterday, we were advised that tephra and ash might affect us even further north than where I am - but we’re also getting a ton of rain right now, which I hope will wash away a lot of the outdoor mess. It’s rough on pets - people with dogs have been fretting about the irritation to their animals’ paws.
They’ve added sound to V1 & V3. I keep the feeds up on other tabs, and I was wondering why my laptop was making weird noises.
