It’s been on and off all day. Usually for about ten to fifteen minutes at a time.
Yep. Just smoking now.
V1 cam seems to be the only one aimed at where the action is. Even when there isn’t any. ![]()
Nice flow showing on V3 atm…
Done now. Has been for a couple hours now. Again. Sigh.
Interesting. If you rewind V1 all the way back, that’s only 3 hours ago. If you rewind V3 back, that’s 12 hours ago.
In any case, at about 0740HT, so still visible near the beginning of V1 for a few more minutes at least, you can see the flow @pjd was speaking of. And also see it on V3 at the same time. Which helped me to understand the spatial relationship between the two POVs. They re-aimed V3 awhile ago to account for the new gas vents, and in the absence of eruptions I was struggling to align my mental model with their revised reality.
As of now = 0845 ET / 0245 HT it seems there was brief spewing back starting around 0200 HT for 15-20 minutes and there’s now some gas jetting with little ejecta being blasted out. So starting about 45 minutes ago as I write.
The view during the event is real variable. V3 probably had the best POV but there was a lot of obscuring smoke & gas. Sometimes the camera sees only blackness, then a few seconds later there’s vividly glowing lava. From V1’s POV there was almost no obscuration, but the lava was mostly coming out the back side of the spatter cone and flowing away from us.
The small good news is that since it ended so recently, it’ll be rewindable for most of Sunday daytime for us in the CONUS. And both cams now have a 12-hour history; I don’t know how the V1 cam ended up with only a 3h history a couple days ago.
There should be a live volcano cam in this thread every five posts. I hate scrolling back looking for one.
Here’s one now:
Nope. That’s not live; it’s years old about a different volcano altogether.
We expect folks to have the Kileaua live cam urls saved. There’s no point in posting a live cam url here when it’ll be displayed here for decades but only has something interesting to watch within a couple hours of when it was posted.
This thread is about realtime comments on what that one volcano is doing as we’re posting.
See https://youtube.com/@usgs for all the really live cams, not year old vids.
