Same here. TBH, I still don’t understand Spotify’s giant multimillion dollar contract with Joe Rogan. Yes, he’s a popular podcaster, but are his podcasts really going to generate that much revenue?
I’m a jiu jitsu guy, so I have enjoyed Rogan’s content on that topic. But he’s clearly out of his league otherwise and amplifies pseudoscientific voices like Alex Jones and Jordan Peterson, who spread misinformation. Sorry, I know this is Cafe Society, but I just don’t understand why Spotify is paying millions to a questionable podcaster rather than the countless musicians who provide most of its content.
It’s the worlds most popular podcast with almost 200 million downloads per month. They are making more money off him than they are paying him. It’s not personal it’s business.
At one point I quit Spotify and migrated over to Apple Music to get my Neil access back.
I quickly decided that I hate Apple Music just a bit more than I love my Neil, so I went back to Spotify.
I do own 20+ Neil Young CDs, and nearly that many of his albums on vinyl, but I no longer own a CD player in my vehicle. Every couple months or so I gave a half-assed effort to transfer my CDs to Spotify (as mentioned in my OP), and, very weirdly, finally got the hang of it just yesterday.
Now I don’t have to transfer the other 19 CDs. Woo-hoo!
Now, if we can only get Joni Mitchell back on there…
I’m almost as much of a dinosaur as, well, Neil Young, and I don’t understand why you’d transfer CDs to any music service. What I’ve done is rip the CDs in my computer and transfer them to my own storage (phone cards and thumb drives) to play when I’m out somewhere.
Old Man, Don’t Let it Bring You Down, but Tell Me Why Neil Young is returning to Spotify?
Neil Young has a Heart of Gold, so he’s Helpless not to if he wants his fans to have streaming access to his music when they’re Out On the Weekend. Young is a Dreamin’ Man, but he’s practical too.
Are we sure we know that as a fact? I mean, the argument for something is often “they wouldn’t do it if it weren’t profitable”, and yet they’re clearly doing something wrong.
