Malacandra, to say nobody gives a fig about men is a wildly sweeping, and frankly inaccurate statement.
Why can’t anyone, male or female can have a conversation about the rape of a woman, specifically, without being accused of misrepresenting men by doing so?
By discussing the rape of a woman, nobody is negating the rape of a man, they just aren’t discussing it specifically.
In the wave of this ‘Me too’ movement, I keep hearing men saying this same thing, ‘Nobody gives a fig about men…’
And it’s just BS.
Men aren’t getting the radio time (they perhaps think they deserve) at the moment because, frankly, the issue of men being paid less than women, treated unequally, disrespected, harassed, abused and raped just isn’t as prevalent. Nobody, nobody is saying it doesn’t happen. Nobody, nobody is saying that it isn’t equally as abhorrent when it does.
Just because you aren’t being discussed specifically, doesn’t mean you aren’t cared about equally, considered equally, respected, and loved. You just aren’t being talked about in that moment. I think men should stop waving their arms around in the wake of this movement to try and detract from it. You aren’t being talked about, that’s all. Deal with it and step up to the plate for the women around you who have suffered inequality since time immemorial.
