Forced Fun and Educational Too

aaaaaah [del]archanum[/del] Straight Dope…helluva hard habit to kick…oh well, once off the wagon shouldn’t hurt

So, laying about the house with Vaderling, nothing interesting to do but fret about the immediate future and how grim and dire it all seems right now, I’d worked myself into a right frightful funk today.

Finally, having had enough and trying to stave off the argument with Vaderling (that happened anyway) I clothed myself in the appropiate attire for a drive, brushed my teeth and kicked the kid off the xbox(thus starting the aforementioned argument).

No destination, no purpose in mind, I just needed to get out and go “somewhere” and do “something” for a few hours. It ended up being both enjoyable and educational for both me and Vaderling.

First we went to Celebration Park.(link to park website) I’d been there a few times in the past and knew some of the history and reason for its existence, but hadn’t visited in some years. “They’ve” made quite a number of improvents and developed it.

What I learned was that there are in situ petroglyphs in the park with developed trails leading to them. Quite fascinating. Vaderling asked if I imagined someone would have a good time clambering over and around huge boulders after being forced off an xbox and out of the house for no well defined reason. Yeah kiddo, I did, it’s a pattern with you.

Next we ventured down the road and around a few curves to a different locale on the river, to yet another ancient archeological petroglyph site, “Map Rock”, which if it is a map as some have argued, would make it the possibly oldest map in the world. Here is a link to an article making the argument for its cartographical validity.

Here is a link to Atlas Obscura with a more general informational entry that is slightly more informative than the wikipedia entry.

Sigh…

Back now, to the present day with its stark realities and murky future filled with dread possibilities

You did a good thing Daddy Vader.
