Forcing an HP laptop to boot from DVD

OK, I have a new HP laptop and I want to put Ubuntu on it. I’ve downloaded the .iso file, burned a DVD, but now I can’t force the laptop to boot from it. Hitting F1 while it boots does not do it. All I get from that is the system info. Any other ideas?

OK, it’s possible (even likely) I didn’t burn the DVD correctly. Sorry to bother everyone.

I would guess it is due to the laptop using UEFI, which you could roughly call a replacement for BIOS.

I had this problem myself with a new HP, and after hours of playing around, just got vmware and installed ubuntu under a virtual machine.

google uefi linux boot will tell you everything you want to know.

Thanks. You’re right that it does have UEFI, but I had no idea what that was. Much appreciate your info.
