I was listening to an interview with THK this morning. It touched on her international background (born in Mozambique, speaking 5 languages (Including English better than Bush IMHO)).

The interview got me thinking. How many first ladies were born outside of the US? IIRC Martha Washington was born on Guadalupe or some other carrib island.

The only First Lady born outside of what is now the United States was Louisa Adams, wife of John Quincy. She was born in London, though her father was from Maryland.
