A long row of shelving that completely collapses when one support is taken out seems to me to be poorly designed. You need a bit of redundancy built in there.
Not to mention that there ought to be unobstructed lanes for the forklifts to travel on.

I’m scared that the warehouse I just started in is badly designed and set up. I used to work at a Target DC, and several times folks hit the racking with forks or even turret trucks (sorry!) - but all it did was dent or bend a bit of racking. Even then, they’d call in engineers to make sure it was still safe.
Where I am now - the racking is holding far more weight, and isn’t even bolted down, much less designed professionally.
I guess I’m fortunate that the warehouse in the building where I work is pretty well designed. All racks are bolted down and pretty sturdy and our Reach-certified drivers are all pretty good at it. Although they just started teaching the floor manager to drive the lift, and I think she’s just a little bit skittish…
