I have a USB stick that came with U3 software pre-installed. I can remove all of the programs (Avast!, for example) by right clicking, but I can’t get rid of the U3 system itself by this method. I want to remove the U3 so I can use the thing in a non-Windows machine. The young person at Staples assured me that this was possible. I, however, don’t know how.
Please assume that I must be told every step in small, easy-to-understand words. Would someone kindly walk me through how to reformat this thing? Thanks.
You need the U3 Uninstaller, which is on their website. Has worked perfectly for me in the past. This link should work, but if not just type “U3 uninstaller” into Google.
I’ve uninstalled, but the computer I want to use it on doesn’t recognize the device. I’ve even reformatted it in Linux and back to Windows; no luck so far.
I had a USB problem on a Windows Vista computer, and after contacting the hard drive manufacturer I was told to download some USB update at this page. If you have Vista that might be your issue.
Thanks, I’ll look when I’m back at work. I’m running Xandros on an eee, for what it’s worth. It should recognize the formatted stick with U3 removed, but it doesn’t. My XP does just fine, and according to the U3 uninstall utility, running Linux is one of the reasons people remove the U3.
