Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has unspecified dementia (has died, Nov. 19, 2023)

I believe he was holding on as hard as he could so she would go first. I believe he will follow her shortly.

I had the same thought, though I have no basis for believing it. They were extraordinary, and excellent role models for us all. RIP, Mrs. Carter.

My paternal grandmother died shortly after the last of the folks she wanted to see had visited her in the hospital. A will to live can really help. And my maternal grandfather died two weeks after entering the nursing home. He’d had a bad stroke, and although he couldn’t speak we all believed he knew what was happening and let himself go. It can work bothe ways.

Why am I not surprised?

Moderating:

Just a reminder that political jabs are not allowed in breaking news threads. Trump’s response to this news, or pretty much anything about Trump, is inappropriate in this thread.

He did, and I find that amazing. He released this statement.

“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” President Carter said in a statement. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”

R.I.P., Rosalynn. What a classy lady. What a classy couple.

@puzzlegal, not to hijack the thread, but could @Whack-a-Mole have simply made his post without the leading question?

Like, simply, like this?

Bringing up Trump at all is likely to hijack any thread. Let’s keep this one about Rosalyn Carter.

I just mentioned Rosalynn Carter’s passing to a 40ish co-worker of mine and was asked, “Who’s she?”

a beautiful memorial service. i enjoy hearing the wonderful memories people have of her in plain old daily life.

That’s probably true. The pictures of him look like it was a considerable effort on his part to attend. I thought is earlier statements were perfect. “As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me”.

I heard on NPR that she saw his photograph in his sister’s room, her friend, and asked if she could take it home.

I would submit that Trump insulting them is fair to post in this thread.

And I submit that its better for one of the many other threads that pertain to ‘what trump has done today’.

Let this be respectful.

Upon reflection, I agree.
