Also amusing is that while Honda is holding Alonso back in F1, Honda has a good chance at winning at the 500.
Thanks for clarifying that. I thought they were saying that it had something to do with that pit stop but i didn’t see where he did anything wrong by stacking-up like that. I didn’t realize he was being a jerk, again. I’ll have to look at my replay and see where he holds up DR.
I just read this at the Autoweek site.
“When such an anomaly exists, we decided to let Vettel go in this case,” said Salo. “It could have been a warning, but it’s better to have a more specific rule for these cases.”
Ferrari winning races. The universe is slowly coming back into alignment…
I like Hobbs, in a goofy old granpa sort of way. Buxton though, I’d pay good money to swing an axe at him.
What do you guys have against Hobbs and Buxton? I know Hobbs hasn’t been in a race car in nearly 30 years; it would be nice to have a commentator who had more first-hand knowledge of modern race cars, but I think he does a pretty good job, even if he is a little predictable.
I can see how Buxton’s energy level and manner might be annoying to some, but I’m always amazed at his encyclopedic knowledge of racing history, technology, and personalities.
In fact, I often marvel at how all four of them seem to remember the details of practically every race ever run. It’s quite common to hear one of them say something like, “This incident is a carbon copy of the collision between Schumacher and Alonso at Spa in 1998.” (I’m making these specifics up, of course.) They all really do know an awful lot.
Of the four of them, Leigh Diffey is the one I think is most expendable. He’s okay, and as I said, he remembers lots of things, and I don’t find him annoying. He’s just kinda meh. I much preferred Bob Varsha. I wish he were still on the air.
I agree. Diffey is certainly meh. Varsha was way better. I watched an IMSA race from the mid 80’s on the youtube a while ago and saw a very young Bob Varsha interviewing an already very old Hobbs (who was driving a Porsche 962).
Russia was not an exciting race but I was very happy with the outcome! About damn time…
I was expecting you would be the first poster after this race. Congrats!

What do you guys have against Hobbs…

Okay, I’ll fess up. It’s a pet peeve, but I’ve got really good hearing and the “old man mush mouth lip smacking” when he isn’t talking positively sicks me the fuck out!
I can not tolerate that sound at all.
[quote=“Gatopescado, post:49, topic:778028”]
Oh, yeah, I know what you mean. But he was sick and not on the air during practice/qualy and I STILL heard s smacking. So either it is matchett, or I like to convince myself it is an issue with the mics.
Good going for Valtteri Bottas, I hope the Marshalls won’t be too busy picking up the toys thrown out of Hamilton’s pram
If you guys in America don’t like the local commentary, there is a way to get the British commentary by Martin Brundle who is not bad.
Brazil had the best commentary ever. All you heard was the cars, and occasionally a guy would say some very brief important comment.
Barricello doing the grid walk is sad tho. Also, I don’t speak Portuguese.
Rubens was 12 years old when I watched races in Brazil!
Ha! :smack:
I had accidentally downloaded Brazilian coverage of a race a few years ago, not too long after he retired. He did the grid walk and was certainly better than the fuckwit Buxton (probably because I couldn’t understand most of it (though he did speak english to the drivers who didn’t speak portugese)), but not as good as Brundle. Brundle is the only one on the entire grid who seems to enjoy the grid walk.
Damn! Alonso just set a blistering qually for the 500 (231.3 mph). As of right now, with 4 more to run, he can fall no further than the second row, I think.
Can you imagine if he stays on Pole?
5th, middle of row 2, right next to “Take-you-out” Sato.
My ex had a great nickname for Sato, darned if I can remember what it is now. Anyways, great qualification for Alonso, I’ll be rooting hard for him on Sunday.
All Ferrari front row for Monaco! Kimi ahead of Vettel, and Lewis mired back on row 7.
I don’t get much better than that for me.
I wonder if the team will screw Kimi somehow, allowing Seb to win. That would blow. I can’t believe they would, though. Not at Monaco, surely. Not this early in the season.
