Fort Boyard

Does anyone know if this TV show is still being produced and if it’s shown anywhere in the U.S.? We used to watch on CHLT, the French-language station from Sherbrooke, Quebec, which is carried here in Maine. But we haven’t seen the show there in months.

For those not familiar, teams of contestants on the show perform challenging stunts (e.g., searching through a room full of snakes to find one with a clue taped to its belly). A couple of dwarfs are involved, but their function is not clear to me.

I have written to CHLT, but received no response. Maybe my French is worse than I think. Thanks for any information.

It’s an international show (see the first link below) - which version are you referring to?

The British show (1998-the present) features the (um) charms of Melinda Messenger (former double glazing saleswoman turned topless model) and Leslie Grantham (former soap star and one time jailbird).

As far as I know this godawful rubbish is still being churned out (thanks, programme commissioners at Channel 5!). Links:

Fort Boyard’s current season is over now. As far as I know the show is still being shot for next year.
Certainly it’s one of the most entertaining and potentially dangerous game shows I’ve seen. Contestants actually have to be fit, smart and quick if they are to succeed. Not like standard gameshows.

I hope TVA brings it back next fall.

Another show that looked promising was Treasure Map, which had two players flying all over creation in a pair of helicopters, looking for clues and generally being a nuisance to the locals. Great locations and scenery in this show!

MattK, I had no idea there was a British version. The show I’m looking for originates, I think, in France. The accents don’t sound to me like Quebecois French, but I’m no expert

The show does indeed originate in France. The setting is a real Napoleonic War fort in the English Channel. The British version uses the same location, but I feel it is much more contrived [not to mentioned dumbed down] than the original version.

We get this terrible show and it is -er-terrible.
It’s full of his’n’her matching tracksuit types who probably go hillwalking in immaculate matching ,expensive, pastel shaded, goretex raingear.
Give me ‘It’s a knockout’ and ‘Jeaux sans Frontiers’ any day.
