I agree with you, Cliffy, but i didn’t see anyone characterize it that way in this thread.
except in the OP mhendo…
I hate that coomercial too.
They used that Buffalo Springfield anti-war song ‘For What It’s Worth’ in a commercial a few years ago, I was similarly repulsed.

I think it’s time we stop, children, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down*
I remember reading on how it applied to the three main candidates before Super Tuesday primaries - Gore as senator’s son, Bush as millionaire’s son and McCain as military son.
I think they also used the anti-consumerist Janis Joplin “Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz” song to sell their cars.
Oh, and, John Lennon’s “Revolution” to sell Nikes.
I often find myself muttering at the TV screen.
I love it when the song “American Woman” is used to glorify American Women.
(And the Beatles were money hungry whores, so Revolution selling Nikes doesn’t bothers me too bad!:))
Me too.
I especially like this bit:
So basically, Fogerty got sued for sounding too much like himself.
My wife hated a Kodak commercial advertising their film products that used the song “More Precious than Gold” by the Christian vocal group Acappella. The “They are more precious than gold” chorus was juxtaposed with pictures of family events.
The song was based on Psalm 19 and refers to the laws of the Lord being more precious than gold. Not that I think she objects to the idea that a picture of your loved ones is precious, but I think she objected to the song being used out of context.
She was also disappointed that Acappella sold out.
Oops. missed that one. Mea culpa.
