I am not the most fortunate when it comes to competitions. For example, I have been submitting (definitely correct) entries to a prize cryptic crossword in a UK newspaper, the Daily Telegraph, since 1977 - probably 7 weeks out of 10 for 29 years - and have won precisely one consolation prize of a £10 book token.
So, imagine my surprise when I opened a letter yesterday to find that I’d won a 7-night holiday for two to Sydney from the Sunday Times! A couple of weeks ago they ran a story about the Sydney Festival and had this competition. All you had to do was answer a fairly straightforward question (something like "Because of its shape, what do the locals call the Sydney Harbour Bridge?). I duly submitted my entry (“The Coathanger”) and thought no more about it.
The great thing is that I can take the prize any time I like - well, with a few exceptions - up until 30th November 2007.
Brightened up my Christmas, I can tell you!
Anyone else had any good firtune lately?
