Forty years ago today, Terry Fox dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic ocean ...

… in St John’s harbour, Newfoundland and Labrador, and began the Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer treatment.

He ran the equivalent of a marathon every day, across the four Atlantic provinces, Quebec and almost through Ontario.

Until the cancer finally got him at Thunder Bay. By then he had raised $1.7 million.

In the forty years since, over three-quarters of a billion dollars have been raised through Terry Fox runs.

RIP, Terry.

Terry Fox

Great post, thanks for the reminder.

Forty years? Seems much closer than that somehow.
