I’ve had problems getting into the forums twice in the last two days for hours at a stretch. Is it just me?
They save money on the server if they allow roving brownouts.
Not that I’ve noticed. However the forums were inaccessible at around 1:30 EST this afternoon, not sure how long the problem had been ongoing but it resolved itself in about ten minutes after I noticed. It was a strange one – the site was still up but “boards.straightdope.com” (but not the main “straightdope.com”) had been dropped by the DNS servers.
I was unable to reach the site since at least noon until about 13:30 for me.

It’s been spotty all day. Just got another “failed to open page” notice a few minutes ago. 12:08 PST.
Yeah, it’s been spotty for a few days. The hamsters must be on their Christmas break.

Every good provider knows to circle the servers and break out the firewalls when the lookout sees the dust from a roving brownout on the horizon.

The newest mod is in charge of feeding the hamsters, so this was all Spice Weasel’s fault.
Ok, seriously. There was a DNS issue today that has been fixed. The boards may not work for everyone though until the DNS fix gets propagated out across the internet (that’s just how DNS works). But we are back up now for most folks.

OMG. It’s back. I thought the IT people at work shut down my connection.
