Recurring connection problems

Is anyone else having problems with the board going in and out of existence? It isn’t affecting any other site, so I don’t think it’s on my end.

Still, it seemed odd that no one else has posted about this–unless they just couldn’t.

I’m having the same problem, plus it looks like posts aren’t showing.

All day I have been having trouble accessing the board today. Time outs and only part of the page loading.

I’m in San Francisco if that matters.
If this isn’t fix immediately, I will demand a full refund, with interest.

Same here.

It’s because of sequestration – the hamsters are on half rations.

Me too; I’m just now able to get the board to load.

Same here. It’s up, it’s down, sometimes in the middle of a reply.

The funny thing is, when I pinged boards.straightdope.com I got a reading of 31ms, which is faster than I can get a document to my printer.

Me too; I’m just now able to get the board to load.

Edit: but not really because this hasn’t posted yet.

Because: This forum requires that you wait 60 seconds between posts. Please try again in 45 seconds.

I haven’t posted at all yet. Really, y’all, no other website gives me a fraction of the trouble the Dope does.

Edit again: I only hit the button once. WTF

Me too.

This has been building up for some time. Connection and board speed have been problematic for weeks now. Often I would click on a forum and would just get the spinning thingy; then hit ‘stop’ and click again to enter the forum. Same for posting.

Merged duplicate threads.

It’s us, not you – we’re still trying to figure out what’s going on. Sorry for any inconvenience.

There’s apparently some issues, it’s being looked into.

it does seem a little more stable now. I hope that’s a harbinger of better.

Sorry for your inconvenience.

This is what happens when we even talk about increasing the search interval.

Warning heeded!

I know, right? It was ridiculous.

Just curious, why didn’t they temporarily close down the board (with a message outside specifying the reason)?

I think because one can figure it out- can’t load, probably down.

On FB we were discussing it, too. If you’re not sure you can test it at: http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/

Why? I had some intermittent problems, but never lost connectivity for more than a few minutes. I assume many others had only minor problems as well.

I had some temporary uptime today. “Minor problems” would be an understatement.

Just happened again.

For at least five hours, I couldn’t get here at all (the whole straightdope.com domain was down, according to downforeveryoneorjustme.com), then I started being able to read threads for which I’d gotten e-mail notifications of new posts (but couldn’t navigate elsewhere on the site). As of this typing, it seems to be behaving normally now.

I’d respectfully suggest that totally inaccessible for that long is slightly more than a “minor problem”.

I think it’s a female thing.

The SDMB ought to have a Twitter account for announcing issues like this, I reckon.
