Found two very small kittens!

Given the circumstances, and his dapper black-and-white formals, perhaps Rhett or Butler would suit? After all, he was almost gone with the wind. (Naming him Butler would have the side benefit of giving you something to call him when he’s naughty, and some silly singing-to-cats options.)

Good luck in your search, and good on you for looking out for two more little victims of disaster.

Yeah I think 10-15 days is a little conservative, I would guess closer to 6 weeks old. They have claws! They are probably meowing because that’s what kittens do. Get them to a vet for a check up just to be sure, especially if you have never raised kittens before. But they are cute! And very lucky!

I always know that a link with kittens.jpeg is going to be a good one!

If that photo guesstimator is any good, they’re not more than 16 days old. they can barely walk, I’m thinking their eyes have only been open for a short time.

Here are the two kitten napping after being fed again.

The reason I guessed 6 weeks is based on when I found my kitten a couple years ago, seen here, when I brought her to the vet, they said roughly 8 weeks. Two weeks old looks like this. In your picture, their eyes are open, they have pretty long claws, and their ears are perky and they have whiskers.

Trust me, LadyF, they ain’t that old. Maybe the pics aren’t that good, but they are barely able to walk, they’re so young.

Yeah, it may be the pictures. Either way, they look relatively healthy, so hopefully you’ll be able to get them to a vet soon!

10 - 15 days is when bear claws go to kitten mittens and the whiskers puff out. it is amazing and almost over night when it happens.

jolly roger, are they able to get their feet under them? also they may have trouble walking because they didn’t have food for a day or 2. the first month is crazy growing time, every day they can do 2 or 3 things they couldn’t do before.

i’m sure they will catch up soon due to the feedings they are getting now. love those full tummys on the sleeping kittens!

Jesus H, I’m a complete fracking sucker for a cute kitten or two. Good on you for keeping an eye on them in this crazy and cruel world.

We let them walk around the living room for a bit. they mewled and stumbled about, as if they were just learning to walk. “Dusty” (the gray one) seems like maybe her leg is hurt, which is one reason I made an appt. for them tomorrow at 0800 at the Petsmart vet.

Yeah, petsmart’s banfield clinic ain’t cheap, but I don’t mind spending some of our insurance money for these two little lost ones. They may be just be mewling because they can’t find their mother. We suspect that their mom is “Ghost” a stray cat that we would feed in our backyard. (We called her “ghost” cuz she looked like our late cat “Stache”).

I don’t think Dusty’s leg is hurt, I think she’s just new to moving about. “Domino” is content to sleep and eat. Dusty seems needy, she won’t relax until my wife cuddles her. But she’ll be okay, I think. Jet Jaguar is keeping his distance, as if he’s afraid of them. That worries me…Jet is very gentle and friendly but since he was abandoned when I took him in I think he has abandonment issues. I need a pet psychic. Hopefully Jet will befriend them…he usually does that with every cat he’s introduced to. Banshee won’t…she’s old and grumpy. She’ll “tolerate” other cats as long as they don’t mess with her. We’ll be watching closely to make sure Banshee is contnet and not feeling threatened by younger cats in the place. (Banshee had issues with Patches since Patches was…is…only 2.)

Speaking of which I need to go set the cat trap for Patches. I hope she’s out there and we catch her. Patches, we want you to come home!

Yay for you for taking them in, and I hope you find Patches soon!
But my fiance now hates you 'cause I won’t stop asking him for a kitten now :stuck_out_tongue:

i hope you find patches soon. good luck tonight.

domino, eh? they sometimes have a bit trouble when their feet go from bear claw to mitten. the wee one i raised took a day or 2 to get the hang of it. i would laugh at her and say “toe pick”, it reminded me of how skaters have trouble going from skates with no toe pick to figure skates; like the claws on kitten mittens they just keep “catching”.

also they have to build up leg strength to get them under them and hold the wee little weight they have.

One thing I noted…both kittens have blue eyes. Is that just 'cuz, or a genetic defect or something?

they haven’t changed yet. that is another reason i think they are not quite a month old yet.

they start out a nice midrange blue and then change to adult colour.

forgot to say, eyes turn colour around 6 weeks-ish.

They certainly aren’t a month old, RC. they are really only about 2 weeks old. Its easy to see if you were in the room with them. Seriously, they must have been in the debirs when it was pushed to the road, so its a miracle they weren’t killed. I don’t think they would have survived this day if the wife had not found them.

With all the stuff you must be dealing with right now, being able to take care of something so small and helpless must give you a feeling of control, or… something. I’m so glad you’re taking care of these little ones.

Not control. But really, what else could I do?Take them to a shelter? Knowing that they may not ever be adopted? Not that I even had the time to do that today. I’m not a saint, but I can’t turn my back on a suffering creature if I have the ability and means to help. I’ve never been able to do that and still look myself in the eye. I won’t give those kittens up to a shelter. I won’t give them up to anyone unless I know they’ll get a good home…and until then they are (probably forever) part of our family now.

I drove myself nuts when Jet was lost a few years ago in Germany. Because I adopted him and even when it looked like he was gone for good I couldn’t bear it. Because I took him in, I was responsible for him and he IS my cat. I owed him that because I promised him a good home when I let him in the house.

These kittens had no one, and would not have made it through this day without my wife bringing them in and nursing them. She told me that before I got home “Domino” seemed close to dying. I could certainly use the karma, but its not about me…its about making sure these two helpless creatures don’t suffer. I don’t think its control…at least in my mind. Its that I can’t let it happen if I can do something about it.

in a way i’m a bit envious, you get to see them develop and grow. i’m so happy y’all found them.

in another way, i’m happy i’m not the one dealing with screaming kittens in the wee hours of the morning. when i bottle raised just one wee kitten, there were some nights… i tell ya, there was nothing that would settle that little one.

thankfully kittens grow up fast and in a handfull of weeks, no more bottles!

enjoy the time with them now. the other cats will be okay when they get a little bigger.

Jolly Roger, I just wanted to tell you that you and your wife are my heros right now. Dusty & Domino are adorable and very, very lucky.

I hope that Pastches comes home very soon. Best of luck and all that’s good to all of you.
