Found two very small kittens!

Most likely they’re crying because they’re scared, confused, and they want their mom. You really can’t do anything about the third problem, but they’ll settle down in a couple of days…and then they’ll cry because they want to be held, or they’re hungry. They will very quickly learn that humans are a reliable source of food, though sometimes we’re a bit slow to action.

Nobody with a heart could resist those two. And I hope that Patches shows up soon.

If you have a sweaty (sweaty is very good) shirt or something, put that out in trap you’ve set for Patches. Cats can’t necessarily navigate back to your apartment, but they’re very good at recognizing the smells they’ve grown up with.

At least both kittens are healthy according to the vet. Though we did make an error. Dusty is a male and the other is female. My wife dubbed him/her “Sinbad” but we may have to come up with another name now. I still like “Domino” but the wife doesn’t like that name much.

The small animal trap I put outside caught A cat, but not Patches. A big mean orange tom I’ve seen around. I let him out. I’ll have to try again tonight.

Our female tuxedo is Penguin. She came with the name “Charade” from the humane society, and I sort of wish my daughter had kept that.

Dunder and Blixum, Donner and Blitzen (thunder and lightning)

Did the vet say how old they are?

Congrats on the new kittens!

StG

Between 3 or 4 weeks.

Any word on Patches yet?

<I don’t need any more kittens, I don’t need any more kittens>

Sadly, no. The trap I set caught a big orange tomcat I’ve seen around before. I let him go. I’ll set again in the evening around sundown. Hopefully big orange, having learned his lesson won’t wander into it again.

The kittens on the other hand, were checked out by a the vet and seem to be in good health. I was wrong…the gray one, “Dusty” is a male, and the tuxedo cat is a female! We were calling “him” sinbad" but we’ll have to find another name I guess. I still like the name “Domino”.

After taking stool samples, Dusty crapped all over the place at the vet. We fed them some solid kitten food with some kitten milk when we got home. They seem to be walking steadier now and more relaxed. They’re asleep now in kitty bed we made for them and a makeshift mini litterbox.

I hope we find Patches soon. We both think she’d probably act all motherly/big sisterly to the kittens.

That was my guess as well. Where I work we get plenty of kittens and sometimes moms with kittens or pregnant moms who have their kittens while they’re with us. We foster them sometimes if other shelters are full so we’ve had the opportunity to watch a lot of them grow. Kittens being fed by a mom who’s safe indoors and being fed regular meals will be fatter and healthier. That website posted is a great site to get a general idea of age but those are indoor, well-fed kittens and not all kittens the same age will look the same.

Outdoor kittens with a good mom may not be as fat and sassy and outdoor kittens with a bad mom may be sickly or scrawny. Orphaned kittens won’t last long on their own and quickly become sickly and malnourished.

Anyway, good for you for taking them in and I hope you find your Patches soon. In my experience, male cats are often quicker to accept kittens than females. And sometimes the ones who protest the most are the first to accept them, so don’t worry too much that the other kitties won’t accept them.

There’s a Facebook page for finding lost pets.

I hope Patches shows up! (Those babies are adorable.)

i’m glad they checked out okay. good thing you got them when you did, and hydrated them.

i’ll bet they were a bit hit at the vets.

i used the pan from stoffers mac and cheese for my wee ones. you may want to be carefull with clumping litter until they are a bit older. kittens lick thier mittens and they can have tummy troubles with clumping.

i use feline pine with my furry ones so i didn’t have that worry. you can use just a straight clay until they are about 3 months old.

my cats have all pooed at the vets. so glad that i didn’t have to take home the fecal container. the vet just mentioned sample and they provided it right quick. sometimes with the funniest looks on thier little faces.

That was the same age my two boys were when a friend found them under her trailer and brought them to me. They had to be bottle-fed for a few days before they started eating canned kitten food with a little formula mixed in, and within another week they had graduated to dry food. I used a low cardboard box for a litter pan, but it didn’t take them long to start using the real one (and eating my older cat’s food, either).

It also didn’t take them long to start climbing up onto my bed and fighting with the "blanket monster’ while I was trying to go to sleep. I also went through most of a tube of antibiotic cream on the scratches on my legs from them climbing onto may lap.

Everybody needs more kittens!
They sure are cute. They’re lucky you found them.
I hoping Patches shows up.

When I was young we had a female who slipped into her first heat and got knocked up before my parents could get her fixed, and she was really really small to begin with and did not last long after the delivery of 3 kittens. Our boy kitty, Pepper, surprised us all by stepping in happily as a full-on surrogate mother/dry-nurse and he spent pretty much every waking moment licking them off and letting them nuzzle and crawl all over him.

Jet Jaguar won’t go near them, as if he’s afraid. Banshee wantsnothing to do with them, she hisses and walks away.

But your post made us think “Pepper” might be a good name for the female!

The wife vwent to work tonight, so I’ll probably sleep on the couch so I can hear them if the cry. This will probably upset Banshee, since she likes to jump on the bed and sleep with me.I’m hoping she’ll lighten up and sleep on the couch if I do and maybe get used to the kittens in the basket. Also hoping that Patches falls into cat trap, that I’ll hbe checking every few hours.

I hope you find your Patches soon. Besides the live trap etc, when you are able please call local shelters and rescues, paper your neighborhood in flyers, and don’t give up - I know who have found lost cats after more than a year because they kept in touch with shelters and followed up on all leads.

Kittens are too cute of course (that picture of them sleeping made me melt) and I’m glad the vet says they are both in good health, and that you now know who is he and who is she.

As others have said, blue eyes is normal for babies.

I’d like to add though that I have a gray kitty who is a dead ringer for that kitten, and her eyes didn’t change to her ‘adult’ color until she was 8 or 9 months old. They stayed bright new-kitten blue for a very long time, then went to a strange grayish-blue that matched her coat. Finally they changed to her current regular-cat yellow-green.

ETA: Her name is Fairuza, which means ‘blue’.

My Pepper was indeed a black and white dsh just like your little girl. He had little 2 inch stub tail.

And a lot of cats like the scent of their humans. I threw a dirty sweatshirt on my bed once, and forgot to put it in the laundry before I went to work. When I came home, Katya was curled up on it.

I especially love Dusty. Katya’s a blue-gray cat with mauve paw pads, too. Katya’s grown up and has green eyes, but presumably had blue eyes like that when she was a little kitten. I got her at four months, just past that cute fuzzy kitten stage (and into the awkward, all-ears stage. She grew into the ears later.).

The pictures of the kittens helped me get through a hellacious day at work.

Both kittens are keeping us from sleeoing much. My wife went back to work last night and I was up every few hours feeding them and watching them walk around. (gotta let them out of the kitty bed we made for them out of half a larg pet carrier) “Domino” (still no real name, but I like “Pepper” hope you don’t mind, Cometothedarksidewehavecookies ) usually will go to sleep faster, but she loves to walk around on her stumbly just learning how to walk legs. Dusty however is stubborn. He won’t sleep until his belly is full and he’ll be noisy about it. I think Mrs. JR has spoilt him a bit. Because he makes so much noise she cuddles him until he (and she) pass out on the couch.

No Patches, but the office at the apt. complex called me and said a tenant might have sighed her. I doubt it since the description was vague, but will check it out. I’ll put the trap out later and hope.

Banshee is still grumbly. I let one of the kittens go near her last night and Banshee hissed at it and skulked off. So she apparently wants nothing to do with them. I was hponig she’d be willing to be “mama” kitty for a bit, but, well, Banshee is a grouchy cat. She really only tolerates other cats and I’m the only one she really respects. Funny, because Banshee was the size and age of these kittens and I had to nurse her 'til she could handle herself. But then, 'Stache was there, too, and played mama/sister to her.

Jet Jaguar seems scared of them. I don’t know why. I think once they get old and big enough to start exploring and using the regular litter boxes and food bowls he’ll warm up to them. Since Banshee doesn’t like him either, I’m sure he’ll be happy with new friends until qwe can find Patches. (I don’t want to say if because I really miss Patches)
