Interesting that so many people like Jimmy John’s - I’ve never eaten there when I didn’t feel ill about an hour later. I don’t recall ever having eaten at the other three choices, so can’t speak to them.
I don’t know how widespread the Which 'wich chain is (I’ve eaten at them in AZ and GA), but they’re my preference if I have the choice.
The only one of your four I’ve ever heard of is Jimmy John’s. I think they are good, very fast, and not too expensive. The best thing about them is if you are on a low-carb diet; they will make any sandwich as an “UnWich” by deleting the bun and wrapping it in a large, crunchy leaf of iceberg lettuce. Yummy and more filling than you’d expect.
I’d pick Jersey Mike’s over Jimmy John’s, all things being equal (never had the other two) but neither would disappoint me in the least. And, hey, at least I wouldn’t be eating Subway.
In north Atlanta, a Jimmy John’s 8 inch sub runs about $6. They have free delivery with no minimum and 75% of the time they are lightning-quick. I find their bread rather bland, and I lament the lack of hot subs.
Taste-wise, I like Firehouse the best, but mostly because most of the subs I get there are hot.
Jersey Mike’s (which seems to include the Jersey attitude), is OK - my colleagues like it very much, but I’m a bit meh - I don’t dislike it, and it is definitely a giant step up from Subway.
To sum up replies on Jimmy John’s. Never heard of the others.
Not my favorite, but pretty good. I disagree on the tuna though, very plain.
FAST. I have gotten my sandwich before I even finished paying. I don’t think it’s especially more expensive than other places. Perhaps they just have more deals. Subway is cheaper if you get the daily-type ones, for sure. But you’ll pay more if you’re craving something specific and less commonly ordered.
JJ’s business model is simple:
Find college
Start store nearby
Reap the benefits of delivering to stoned college students later at night
Jimmy John’s is cheap around here. I love their sandwiches and, as stated before, they’re super, duper quick. That said, I would always pick The Great Outdoors above all else. They’re awesome!
There’s a Jimmy John’s by my work, so I eat there every week or two. I always get the #9 with hot peppers (Italian club) or #15 with hot peppers (Tuna club). They’re always $6, and they have way more meat than a Subway sub, so they are a pretty good deal. The “club” subs always have lots of meat spilling out the sides.
Of the ones listed I’ve only had JJ’s and Penn Station. JJ’s is ok, at least their bread is better than most; the bread at places like Subway tastes like store-bought yuck. Penn Station’s sandwiches are way too salty and they only single-cook their fries so they’re as bad as In-n-Out’s.
