Four Weddings and A Funeral reference

At the third wedding reception of the movie, one character offers a toast that “May we all in our dotage be proud to say ‘I was adored once too.’” (Or something very similar along those lines.)

I’ve always wondered if this is original to the script or a reference to something else. Does anyone know?

It’s a quote from Twelfth Night – the silly drunken knight Andrew Aguecheek is suddenly afflicted with a pang of melancholy and says mournfully and enigmatically: ‘I was adored once too’. Although he is trying to win the hand of the fair Olivia, like some of the characters of FWAAF he remains alone. The quote has come to imply a kind of half-mocking, half-serious mournfulness.
