Fox News get pwned!

I’m not amongst the members of this board who view Fox News as Teh Evil, but its always a hoot to see a major media screw up.

On this morning’s Fox and Friends, their morning fluff show, the anchors reported as a straight sports highlight clip the Gatorade ad with the ball girl making a superhuman catch. (Video available here.) It looks pretty real, but is totally CGI.

While I have been typing this, they ran it again!

Pwned!

bwahahahahahaha!

It was on Snopes yesterday! They don’t even do that much research???

Makes me wonder where they got the footage from! I mean, don’t they have to get that stuff from a source other than YouTube?

That’s what I was going to say. How does someone find this and fall for it?

Your not familair with Faux News reporting standards are you?

Heh. I saw this a week or so ago, originally from a Fark link. My first instinct was to follow the link chain from there to another site, which linked to a final site which was an ad industry type site (like Ad Age, but not) that talked about the spot, revealing it for what it is.

That Fox news didn’t bother with as much research? Not so surprised.

Fox is spinning it as “We meant to do that!” now - does anyone have a link to the original airing, with them treating the commercial as a real sports video?

It’s not totally CGI.

As I understand it, it was a stunt actor hooked up to cables. The ball was added in CGI; the jump is more traditional trickery.

IIRC, there are a few Jackie Chan movies where he does something similar without the use of cables; perhaps not quite as hight though. I´m fuzzy about it but I seem to recall that (as usual in one of his movies) at the end they showed the stunts that didn´t go right and it showed the several tries at running up an alley wall corner.
