Fox Theaters

Anyone have an idea why so many cities have a Fox Theater? I thought Cecil answered this before but I couldn’t find anything in a search of the site. Just curious. Thanks.

In the Good Old Days, cinemas in the US (and probably elsewhere) were owned by the studios. The Fox showed Fox films, Warner had the Tivoli (in my hometown) and so on. This was also the reason why they produced so many movies. Everybody had to keep new films in the pipeline to keep people in the seats.

The column Cecil wrote was specifically about theaters called “Bijou”, but addressed the points that others have made above…
