Frampton Comes Alive: Did you own a copy?

In fact, it’s “Bob Mayo,” the name of the keyboard player in Frampton’s band.

It was that and Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours”.

Or, I am told, if you lived in the British Isles, “Queen Greatest Hits.”

I believe my sister got it as a gift from a boyfriend and she hated it so I got it. I turned 13 the summer of '77 when we were into it.

The actual record release was when I was a kid. Since then I have owned lots of Rory Gallagher records, tapes and CDs, but no Frampton Comes Alive. I have nothing against Mr. Frampton, mind you, but that stuff was all over FM radio and I really didn’t need an at-home copy.

No I am too young to have gotten it in the suburban mail along with samples of Tide. I’m also old enough to have immediately gotten the Wayne’s World joke. It was still getting solid airplay on the most popular radio station where I grew up.

Uh, what’s the Wayne’s World joke?

Yes, still have it.

Along with another Frampton or two if I’m not mistaken.
mmm

I was working in radio during that period and often heard songs 3-4x during my day. I didn’t buy much music from that era.

No, I’m a rock purist. To me he stopped being good after Humble Pie.

I voted no because I didn’t own it but there was one in the house. My older brother had the original album.

I don’t know the Wayne’s World joke but Dave Barry once referred to Rumours as the ultimate “big brother album” i.e., those of us still a bit too young to buy records all got exposed to music via our older sibling. In the case of FCA, it was my friend’s big brother. So no, I didn’t own a copy but I sure listened to it a lot.

I never really cared for Frampton, but my girlfriend at the time did, so yes, I bought it right away. I still have it, although I haven’t played it since ca. 1980.

“Frampton Comes Alive”? Everybody in the world has Frampton Comes Alive. If you lived in the suburbs you were issued it. It came in the mail with samples of Tide.

I thought he sold out when he joined The Herd. I prefer his work with the Trubeats.

My parents gave it to me for my 15th birthday (1976). Loved it at the time - but haven’t listened to the actual album since the early 80s. The songs aren’t my favorites anymore. Those songs are on my list of “songs I’m tired of”. Although when I do happen to hear any of the songs I’m immediately transported back in time to summer parties where a ton of kids would show up, someone would bring a keg and someone would hook up speakers and blast music. The songs from Boston’s album Boston are also time traveling songs for me.

Ditto. It seemed like I was being bombarded with Frampton that year; you could hardly get away from his music.

Born in '77. Am familiar with the music. By the time I cared about mainstream music, that shit was so old.

I voted Yes because I know that at least I HAD the album but I can’t remember if it was mine or someone else’s.

I remain forever grateful that for me, at around the same time, those were No More Heroes and The Kick Inside. I owe my big brother for saving me from a life of being enthralled to guitar noodling.

I voted No, because “hell, no, over my dead body” was not an option.
