I got the FREAKS DVD from Amazon, no shipping & handling (I ordered other stuff over $25), delivered in a little over a week, for $14.98 (that’s $5 less than I could get anywhere else) and I am very happy with it…
EXCEPT…
it advertises three extra endings. Horror movie aficionados like myself have heard of a mythical ending that added an extra chill. I thought- “YAY! They found missing footage!”
well, two of the extra endings were edited down versions, and the one SPECIAL one… apparently, it did exist, but there is no footage, but rather film historian David Skal (who also did a great commentary) describing what it was.
Oh well, maybe someone will find an old reel in their great-granddad’s collection, someday…
Btw “One of us, one of us- gooble gobble one of us!”
Amazon’s descriptions are almost always for shit. I ordered a Yes DVD that was supposed to have a bonus documentary and multi-angle music video. It didn’t.
Now I always check sources like DVD File and DVD Movie Guide before ordering anything from anybody.
This is (keeping it vague) “the song”? I would have sworn a few years back that I had seen that ending. I have a vivid picture in my head of it. But people tell me it’s not possible, that the footage is gone, gone, gone. Huh.
Yep- that’s “the song” G Now, this board is full of things that people swear they saw or heard on TV or movies or recordings which don’t seem to exist. I know there have been things I’ve heard about & thought about so vividly that over the years, I can’t recall if I only heard about them or actually have seen them.
BUT if you can recall where you saw the FREAKS ending- then please let us know. Maybe we can locate & restore that Holy Grail! G
RE: KGS- I’m not blaming Amazon. My service from them was excellent. They only printed what was already advertised on the box. And if I’d known the full ending wasn’t part of the extras, I’d have still bought it. That was just an extra incentive.
One of the subplots of Paul Quarrington’s Home Game involves (a fictionalized) Daisy and Violet (who are extraordinarily promiscuous in Mr. Quarrington’s imagination) in a ménage à trois with an adoring “lizard boy,” who’s painfully shy on account of his skin condition. Johnny Eck is represented, too-- but he’s got his eye on someone else.
It wasn’t perfect but it was much better than when I last saw it on TV (about a decade ago). I wasn’t able to catch the TMC broadcasts & I’m surprised the picture quality wasn’t good on TMC.
To me, it seemed as crisp & clear as could be expected.
I’ve fouind TMC to be a very mixed bag when it comes to quality. There are many times when a clearer digital version of a film is released yet they have a very low quality version playing on their broadcast.
A bit of trivia - The dwarf that leads the “Gobble gobble one of us!” chorus played the dwarf mad scientist who converts pig poop to gasoline in “Mad Max - Beyond Thunderdome.”
