Now, wait a minute. Are you the Navigator, or was the other one with “Nav” in the first three letters of the name the real one, or are you both one and the same?
As far as I know David, I am the one and only… this is the first time I’ve posted here. And no I’m not Thomas…
BTW I’m glad you are really a David… thought I’d have to change my little boy’s name (just kidding)
Peace.

I’m not just “a David,” I’m the David. And Soulfrost is the other David.
Although, according to a postcard I just got from the IRS last week, my name is “Daniel.” Hmmm…
RobRoy, I haven’t done an in-depth review of the new religious posters’ threads, but from what I’ve read so far, there has been NO attempt to exchange ideas, just to quote a bunch of mythology like a parrot, discredit others and generally behave like a bunch of ninnies.
It is my opinion that core religious beliefs do not belong being debated on this BB at all.
It is just not possible to get “the straight dope” as to whether or not God exists, or if Jesus was really his bastard son, or if Jews are the chosen folk, or any other numerous blind beliefs and pontifications. These should be debated elsewhere on a board more suitable to the mentality of these individuals, like the LBMB. The internet’s a very big place, after all.
Hell is Other People.
One must get used to the colorful language around here though…
(haven’t discussed one core religious belief in the 40 minutes I’ve been a member.)

Gator, you’re on the wrong thread. Go to Mike’s thread. He’s MKM here. Religious things being discussed there… You’ll feel more at home there. Well, as much as possible anyway.
Sake:
I only hope that your opinion here matters as much as mine.

Hey, Nav, welcome to the party! I’m sure I’ve got a root beer somewhere down here…
Samurai, the description of this forum says that this is the place for religious discussions - including witnessing. And we have had a number of very worthwhile (IMO, at least) religious discussions on this board.
Lib, I never dreamed you felt that way! Don’t you think we ought to get married, so I can nag you in perpetuity?
Sorry, Rufus, I’m engaged. And before that, I was an autosexual.

Welcome aboard, Navigator.
Just as a fair warning, if the language of this thread bothers you, please don’t go to The Pit.
Could you do me a favor? mbagnall mentioned receiving insulting emails after “exposing” the plot from here. Would you be able to find out from whom these were sent? I have no official position here, but the administration seems to respect my opinons, mostly. I do not see where insulting private emails were called for, and I would like our administration to know who were being jerks. I would ask mbagnall myself, but I doubt he is in the mood to receive further emails from strangers.
If you can, you may send me the names privately.
Thank you.

Thank you for the welcome.
As an 8 year veteran of the Navy I’ve said and heard my share of salty language, since I resigned my commission last year, I’ve tried to <ahem> clean up my act
One thing that has always puzzled me though is what ype of word is the f-word?? I mean is it an adjective? a noun? a verb? I mean really???
k… joking aside… I mostly watched the whole sad affair as some of you have aptly put it ‘like driving by a car-accident’ with some disbelief, and a tad bit of horror. I was involved with many of the debates on LBMB, and have found it fairly demeaning that many of you came running back here with mirth and glee to kibutz on our topics. But to be fair, we did our own amount of gleeful kibutzing on our site, so it is a wash.
I’m sorry, but I won’t help you with your favor, as I pretty much would rather get this whole affair behind us. I would rather we start fresh with honesty and integrity than continue to roll around in the muck of this past weekend.
Peace.

Just letting it be known I’m not here with an agenda of any kind. I happened to see some things that I could respond to like a question of all things…What are the price of cigarettes in your area… in a different topic.
My first thought was I can’t answer this stuff. If people have gone to LB and seen my name they are going to think I’m one of the trolls coming to reak havoc.
Then I thought this is stupid. I’m not over here preaching to anyone my beliefs.
I have many, and believe them to be true, but it isn’t up to me to change anyone else.
Yes, I’m a Baptist, but letting it be known I feel quite comfortable, and don’t have a problem with the language etc… I’ve read. I feel like I’m around alot in my own family reading some of this stuff.
I don’t have a problem with someone who doesn’t believe the same way I do. I don’t have the power to change anyone especially with something I would say on a computer, so I wouldn’t even bother to try. I don’t need someone else to agree with me to remain strong in what I believe to be true.
There is enough arguing back and forth on the LB site between the religions because people aren’t doing things exactly as another denomitation might, and it gets old fast reading that same stuff over and over.
It was good to read what some of the expectations are in debating religion, but it was pretty much what I assumed on a board that is so varied. There are a lot of Christian boards to go to if you only want to see the same view you have. I find it interesting to see what other’s have to say from all points, because it makes me stronger in my own faith.
I’m glad there is a place like LB even if it is hard to understand some of the people, but I’m glad there are places like this as well.
I’m glad I was welcomed so warmly by some people in Don’t feed the trolls thread. I was glad to see I wasn’t automatically hated because I have a connection to LB, and that not everyone coming from over there is out to change anybody.
Engaged in what? And you only do it in cars?

Now that I’ve gotten the requisite joking out of the way (and I’m SO sorry), y’all should know we’re working with MBagnall, administrator of the LBMB to get to the bottom of the email business.
Mr. Bagnall claims to have received not only ugly email but death threats.
This is no longer a joking matter (if ever it was one) and I am awaiting copies of the emails in question.
I’m begging all of you not to do anything else to aggravate this situation. It’s okay to disagree with someone or to dislike their views, it’s not okay to take it to these kinds of extremes.
Thanks.

Ack…
Tuba, on behalf of myself…I apologize to mbagnall. Yes, there is a limit, and apparently people crossed it. Lord knows I disagree with people from LB (as Nav and MKM could tell you), but I respect them as people, and feel bad it got to that level. Please convey my apologies.

Lib & Firefly, not to insult either of you, but it is my opinion that the only reason anyone debates matters of faith (the irrational) is to hear themselves talk and inflate their egos.
I have debated religion with many, many people and have never seen ONE person change their minds as a result of something said or brought up. If anything, they end up more firmly and irrationally entrenched in that belief.
I do not find it healthy. This is why I almost always refrain from these types of threads.
Most of the debate on this MB is very healthy - I frequently find intelligent posters, new friends, new facts and perspectives and have altered a couple of my opinions as a result.
I’ll gladly debate historical biblical findings or facets of world religious practices but not dogma and matters of pure faith.
Hell is Other People.

In its root form, “fuck” is a verb (“Fuck me with a chainsaw!”), a noun (“I haven’t had a good fuck since our last anniversary.”), and an interjection (“Fuck fuck fuck fuckety fuck!”).
Of course, like all verbs, “fuck” can be conjugated into “fucking”, which can be used as a participle/adjective (“Hand me the fucking pliers.”) or a gerund/noun (“The quality of your fucking hasn’t been up to par in recent weeks.”).
And, of course, if you were so inclined, you could make it into an adverb (“This job is going just fuckily,” or “I’m having a fuckingly good time.”). You cannot, however, turn it into a pronoun, a conjunction, or a preposition.
In other words, it works like just about every verb in English.
Sake Samurai: “…it is my opinion that the only reason anyone debates matters of faith (the irrational) is to hear themselves talk and inflate their egos.”
My opinion is different. When I discuss what I believe, I think it’s up to the listener to decide if he will believe or reject what I tell them. My objective is to be understood.
You don’t have to agree with me to understand what I am telling you. It doesn’t make you a bad person if you don’t suck up to me and flatter my ego. I’d rather you sincerely disagreed with my position than to have you nod your head agreeably, all the while thinking “This guy’s a kook!”
Part of the reason for discussing religious belief is so you can tell me about what you believe. It’s a part of understanding one another that a lot of folks remain ignorant of, whether the subject is religion or auto mechanics. Some folks approach every dialogue as an opportunity to count intellectual coup against their conversational partner. That approach does no-one any good.
