One of only 19 to have received the Medal of Honor twice. Attributed in Marine Corps lore, during the Battle of Belleau Wood in WWI, to have yelled out while leading a charge,
“C’MON YOU SONS OF BITCHES, DO YOU WANT TO LIVE FOREVER??!!”
Reminds me of the Civil War general (I believe at the Battle of Ft. Donelson) who allegedly told his troops, “You are all only damn volunteers. You came here to be killed, and now you can be!”
