Something Awful isn’t the worst place in the world, I don’t have a membership or anything, but it never struck me as the unintelligent corner of the internet. The worst part is some of the blatant trolling (and the lack of moderator um… moderation, enjoy your ban).

Lack of moderation at SA? Huh? There are some ways that they are actually more strict than we are. For instance, we can insult our mods in the Pit. They get banned for “mod sass” when they do that. (Of course, getting banned over there - as opposed to perma-bans, which they also have - just means shelling out another :tenbux: to re-reg.)

I liked the FFA weekend, though I’m sure all of you that were here are aware of that due to my ~50-per-day posting rate over that time.

I like the Knife Fight forum idea, and I think it would be even cooler if images were turned on in that forum.

I thought the amnesia weekend was great fun and would like to see it continue, but I also like the Pit the way it was been prior to that time.

Much of the fun of the amnesia weekend was the playfulness, naughtiness and orneryness of it. How about a new forum called the Playroom (or something similar) where the rules are the same as they were in the Pit during amnesia weekend, and keep the Pit itself the way it is now?

Those of us who thoroughly enjoyed the Pit this last weekend can go get a dose of it anytime we want in the Playroom, and those who found it tiresome and longed for a return to the good ol’ Pit as it has been can go there.

Frankly, I think this place needs a good ol’ shot in the arm of fun. There isn’t really anyplace here where people can go and indulge in that.

P.S. - Pretty much the same thing was proposed upthread but with the name of Knife Fight. I think a name like that would encourage nastiness (with apologies to whoever suggested it, I mean no offense) rather than the playfulness that made this last weekend such fun.

I said lack of moderator moderation. I just think the moderators get a little overzealous now and then is all. Sometimes it seems like the moderators just get tiffed and ban in the moment or ban people because it was funny. The last one happens rarely of course, but a few of the mods there always had this vigilante-cowboy thing that rubbed me the wrong way.

I can kinda see what you mean, though I’ve managed to never get banned or even probated, and the worst mods tend to get stripped of that status when they cross the line too many times.

I inadvertently named it that–I wanted something along the lines of that fabulous scene in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” where the big dude is all “Rules?! In a knife fight? No rules!” so Paul Newman walks up and boots him straight in the pills. It has nothing to do with outright nastiness, just the no rulez thang…

You kinda missed my point. There are a LOT of posters who hang out in GD who really–and I mean REALLY need to be told something along the lines of “shut the fuck up, you annoying one hit wonder,” or “fuck you, the horse you rode in on AND your incredibly stupid blitherings,” on a regular basis with multi-poster pileons to reinforce the message as needed. You can’t tell them that in GD, so they keep on crapping up perfectly lovely debates with their wibbling and bullshit and all you can do is be politely cutting without going past the rules and THOSE FUCKERS ARE COMPLETELY IMPERVIOUS TO IT, BECAUSE IT FLIES RIGHT OVER THEIR STUPID FUCKING ONE NOTE HEADS. Most of them won’t get near the Pit because they know what will happen when they do; the unsayable-in-GD will be said and it will huwt dere widdoe feewins…

This kinda reinforces something I’ve posted before. I stay away from GD for this very reason – people’s willful blindness toward other opinion; shitting on those other opinions because, well, it doesn’t agree with theirs and so just can’t have any value; and their smug sense of certainty.

I really don’t see why GD exists at all. Everything in there is OPNION, and we already have an opinion forum. Why reinforce the idea that the ideas expressed in there are something different or greater? GD as it is is simply a license to dump on other opinions under the disguise of “debate”.

It made me want to sign up again. Seriously - the Pit has blown some really stanky balls lately (and by “lately” I of course mean “the last 4-6 years”) - a huge increase in pathetic RO threads, petty whining, and pretty lame political rants.

Oh, and if Free-For-All rules every go into effect either periodically or permanently, making the content impermanent is poor idea; it’s important to me to have what I read and write here saved (except for the stuff that I wish they’d delete).
