Free/low cost alternative to Outlook Calendar?

I find my Outlook Calendar at work very valuable there, but while it would be really nice to have a calendar with pop-up reminders at home, it’s not worth over $100 to me just for that - I wouldn’t use it for e-mails or scheduling meetings like at work, just for reminders that would pop up. (like other people I’m annoyed that windows removed popups from their calendars with Win7).

Basically all I’m looking for is a calendar I can enter “appointments,” like “November 26th 2013, don’t forget the ornaments you bought are in the closet,” into and have it display a pop-up on the date and time needed.

It would be excellent if the suggested program would run in the background, without taking up a lot of resources, and not need to be turned on every day in order for the pop-ups to function.

There have to be free alternatives to Outlook’s Calendar like this. Can you recommend some?

Doesn’t Outlook Express have a calendar? Other free options would be Google Calendar (don’t know if that has pop ups though) or depending on which version of Windows you have, the calendar widget in the sidebar will give you pop ups.

Google Calendar has email reminders and pop-ups. Very nice app.

If you have internet access at work (and are allowed to install apps on your work computer) you can link up a Google calendar with an Outlook calendar using Google Calendar Sync…

Well - not so much now… according to this page, Google ended general support of its Google Calendar Sync, unless you are a Google Apps for Business, Education, and Government customers.

That’s a bummer.

I like the google calendar. It’s not quite as in your face as outlook, but it will send you email reminders, and if you have an android phone it will send you alerts on your phone too. I have used it consistently since I stopped working an office job where I needed Outlook and it has fit my needs.

My Dearly Beloved™ and I use Cozi to keep our lives in sync. It will allow her work Outlook calendar to automatically launch updates into it. Similarly, Google Calendars can be sunk ( I hate “synched” ) and other calendars as well.

It’s free, it’s bug free and fairly robust. Dig into every setting and sub-setting to find how to import and sync calendars outside of Cozi.

It’s how we do it.
