Free Music?

Are there any sites that offers 10-20 second music tracks one can use in projects for free? (I’m not talking mainstream or copyrighted music, but rather, self-developed tunes that the owner allows people to use)

Like loops? I’ve found a lot of loops when finding downloadable synth packages. The loops are usually no longer than 3-5 seconds, though. Search for wav samples on google or something along those lines. That usually comes up with something.

I found a bunch of samples people made in their studios and offered them on-line.

I’m sorry, I don’t have a URL for you.

I hit up google with “sound samples” or “wav samples” and found them after a bit of digging.

The words you are after us “Public domain” also check out the statute of copywrite for dead muscians. I think after 50 years music becomes public domain (from origianl recording)

Not exactly, trader.

Anything copyrighted in the U.S. prior to 1924 is public domain. Anything after 1977 is copyrighted for the author’s life plus 70 years.

Anything in the middle may or may not be copyrighted. It depends on when the work was written, whether the author renewed under the old law, and whether the work was automatically renewed under the 1977 law.

In my TV Productions class, we use Free Play Music for our audio needs. They have maybe 200 different selections in lengths from 10 seconds to about 2 minutes. My teacher says that she got special permission from FreePlayMusic to be able to use the songs in our cablecasts, but a quick look over the terms of use shows that you should be able to use the songs for free as long as you don’t sell them to anyone. Hope this helps.
