Free PC game and free weekend notification thread

Same reason why Sims 4 is pretty much always free (or if it’s not just wait a bit before it becomes free again).

I believe the base game is indeed permanently free.

The digital version of Talisman has gone free to play, on at least gog and steam, presumably as a way to get people to buy the (many) dlc.

Yeah, Sims 4 went free to play. Sims fans complain that it is in a buggy state, though, with EA prioritizing new stuff now over fixing bugs.

I got Dragon Age Inquisition as well but can’t install it because it also wants to install Origin, which is no longer supported by EA. Somebody at Epic really dropped the ball here.

Talisman is an old Games Workshop game, and this is Skulls Week; one of the announcements was that there is a new (digital) version of Talisman being released.

It’s the EA app now: https://www.ea.com/en-ca/ea-app

Yup, that’s how I play all the free EA games I pick up (and some older ones I bought a long time ago; I haven’t bought an EA game in years though).

Which I have but DA:I still wants to install Origin.

Today on Epic:

Chivalry 2

yeah, its a retread also if the gaming rags are to be believed the PVP aspect which is most of the game is plagued with bots and cheaters …

Ah, I see what happened: it activated in the EA app.

Today on Epic:

Marvel’s Midnight Suns

That’s a really enjoyable game that I bought not long ago for the Xbox platform (on a heavy discount). Grabbing it for free is awesome.

I bought it at launch and did not regret it. The between-mission plot stuff is… not great, but the core gameplay loop of fighting, deckbuilding, crafting, and upgrading is excellent.

I agree with this. There is a really great game in there that, unfortunately, has some extra crud bolted on that slows it down. But the core game is very good and a lot of fun.

I really liked the between-missions crud exploring the abbey gardens and stuff.

Epic’s freebies for this week:

Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms

Redout 2

Just a note, this is a free game (always free) with microtransactions, so the freebie isn’t the game itself. The freebie is that if you log into the game this week you can claim a benefit for free that normally costs money. From the page:

Limited-Time Offer 6/13 - 6/20: Duke Ravengard’s Champions of Renown Pack (Over $100 USD Value - FREE!)

LOG IN NOW: All players who log into Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms through the Epic Games Store between Thursday, 6/13/2024, at 11 AM Eastern and Thursday, 6/20/2024, at 11 AM Eastern will receive Duke Ravengard’s Champions of Renown Pack. This pack is worth over $100 USD and can be yours for FREE, just by logging in! Get ready to level up your game with this exciting offer!

I’d take the “this pack is worth over $100” bit with a grain of salt; this is common marketing BS from freemium games, where they set some arbitrary value on something (usually a ridiculously high amount) then claim that they are slashing the price so it seems like a great deal. I could take a used plastic fork, claim that I normally charge $20 for it, but today only I will sell it to you for $2, how can you pass that up?

But free is free, if this game (which looks like a clone of countless mobile games) that takes place in the Forgotten Realms world of D&D looks like something a person would enjoy, it might be worth checking out for the free stuff.

I grabbed this because it looks like a really cool futuristic racing game and it’s normally $20.

Tell Me Why is currently free on Steam.
