I already had it in my library from when Amazon Prime Games offered it for free a while back.
Oh, and Borderlands 2 is the best of the lot. And has one of the best antagonists of any game ever, up there with GlaDOS and Shodan.

Two words: “Butt Stallion”
Are these games fun single-player? I don’t really do online gaming. Is there a straight, single-player, offline(so to speak) campaign?
I own if and at least one other Borderlands that went free at some point.
It absolutely does have a single-player campaign and it is fun (I think). It’s not an afterthought either. IIRC you can get ~35 hours out of it in single player.
Played through 3 separate times and never played it online.
The whole borderlands series is quite fun though there was kind of too much of the third one. 1, 2, prequel, then 3. I think I actually preferred 1.
I’ve played 99% offline. Borderlands games can be fun multiplayer, for sure, and I’ve done it with my friends. But they are great games single-player.
I mean, they seem to me to be designed primarily for single-player gameplay, and the multiplayer stuff is just a way to share the experience with other people.
Another vote for BL2 being a fine solo experience. Arguably, you’re better off solo for your first time since it gives you the chance to go at your own pace, listen to dialogue, etc rather than just chaotic gun blasting.
I think BL2 is my favorite. Liked 1 as well but BL2 has a better player interface/QOL as I remember it (it’s been a while). Past BL2, the formula started to drag for me. You’re not really missing out on starting with BL2. Some characters from BL1 return as NPCs but it’s more of a nice touch than anything plot critical if you’re not familiar with them.
Wow, there’s some rampant paranoia (and trolling) in that thread. Not to mention a bit of conspiracy theory: “Of course BL2 has spyware! Why else would it be free?” (paraphrased)
Um, you sure it’s not because 4 will be out soon and they’re simply fostering interest?
All the playable characters from BL1 return as NPCs. Honestly the main reason to play BL1 if you want to do so is to get a little extra background for BL2 and understand the various BL1 easter eggs sprinkled throughout. BL1 is a good game, don’t get me wrong, but if you don’t want to spend the time with it, you don’t need to play it to enjoy BL2.
But, BL2 is in all ways a superior game.
BL3 I actually think edges out BL2 for gameplay and character advancement (i.e. the skill tree is better in BL3, IMO), but BL2 has a better story. The antagonists in BL3 can’t hold a candle to BL2’s Handsome Jack. And BL2 gave us Tiny Tina, who is worth the price of admission by herself.
That being said, all three are fun and worth playing.
*Tiny Tina is considered “the world’s deadliest 13-year-old”. She is basically the archetype of the little sister character who has no qualms about killing the bad guys in the most brutal ways possible and the entire universe is lucky she allies with the good guys. Cf. Angelica Green from Daybreak or Niffty from Hazbin Hotel.
Tiny Tina is also voice by the same voice actor who voices Aloy in Horizon: Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, Ashly Burch.
And it’s important to note it’s the same actress, very different voice.
Do not expect to hear Aloy.
They are 12 years old now (around there) but watching her and her brother’s YouTube videos, Hey Ash Whatcha Playin?, were and still are great. You can see the genesis of Tiny Tina in those. Tiny Tina simply had to be played by Ashly Burch IMO.
Thanks for this this is rabbithole I’m now heading down…
I haven’t seen them in a few years and find I am heading down that same rabbit hole. So much fun!
Paradox Soul is free until the 17th. It has mixed reviews but that’s a cool 50% chance that it’s the game for you. I like those odds.
Two Point Hospital is free on Epic this week: https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/two-point-hospital
It’s a pretty good game (assuming you like that kind of game).
I’ve hesitated on that game just because of the goofy art style and diseases and stuff, though I love ‘tycoon’ type games. I have Project Hospital, which is more realistic, and I’ve had a good time with that.
I suppose ‘free’ is a good enough price to dive in.
This weeks freebies on amazon:
Death Squared, puzzle game which I played and enjoyed some years ago, though I got stuck fairly early ISTR.
Station to Station, cute looking train management game I look forward to playing.
Again, free trial months are easy to get if you shop around on the different country specific amazon sites.
Does this mean you get to play free for one month and then the game is removed or does it mean you have one month to nab the free games and then can play as much as you want to at any time forever?
