Free PC game and free weekend notification thread

You’re not wrong. EA’s Origin service and store have always been bafflingly poor especially when you consider that they stopped selling on Steam years ago and Origin has been their primary point of online sales.

I can add to the thread that “object:[object]” is apparently a free deal at Origin today as well, with 0% off a normal price of $0.00 for a saving of $0.00

The Origin store also frequently advertises lower prices than show up at the final “approve this charge” step. How they’ve avoided getting sued to oblivion, IDK.

EA’s bad at many things.

Absolutely true, but being shit after they have your money is an operational business model. Being shit to prevent you from being able to see if there is anything to spend money on, is not.

This being National Retro Day, the original Elite is available for free from Frontier for PC or Mac.

Good lord that game is 36 years old…

Elite and Elite Plus have been available from Ian Bell’s webpage for years, PC downloads are at

http://www.elitehomepage.org/pc/index.htm

Presumably they need something like Dosbox these days, so I assume the Frontier version is a proper modern port.

No, this really is retro; the download comes with a BBC Micro/Acorn Archimedes emulator.

Ah. Ian Bell’s webpage has downloads for those (and other) versions as well, but it looks like he hasn’t updated his site this century, his links to emulator sites are pretty much all busted.

Steam has a limited number of free copies of Black Desert Online Remastered that will be available until March 2nd.

Steam’s got some games for free right now. Copied the list from Reddit:

GOAT OF DUTY - GOAT OF DUTY on Steam

Epic is giving away games again, World War Z, Figment, and Tormentor X Punisher. I tried World War Z, it’s a third person zombie shooter a bit like Left 4 Dead, and supports single player or co-op. Good graphics and has some impressive waves of zombies, like the World War Z movie. It’s also refreshing you don’t have to headshot the zombies.

For those who don’t have it yet, Steam is having a Cities: Skylines free weekend and the base game is only six bucks for the duration.

I just found two really good Steam links. This first link is all games that are 100% off (free) on Steam: https://steamdb.info/sales/?min_discount=95&min_rating=0

The second link is current free weekends, and upcoming free weekends and upcoming free games: https://steamdb.info/upcoming/free/

Good find.

Child of Light is free from the Ubisoft store until tomorrow:

Again? When did they stop? They’ve been doing a new free 1-3 games starting on each Thursday for a long time now.

Rayman Legends is free-to-keep on Ubisoft.

Symmetry is being given away on GOG.
