Today on Epic we have Mortal Shell, a week in and nothing has grabbed me, I doubt I’ll remember to play any of them, only the ones I already had were any good.
Whoops beaten to it, while replying to another thread.
Dishonored 1 & 2 are great games. One of the best stealth games in a long time.
Well worth playing if you like the genre.
The symbol on the gift preview for tomorrow is from Dishonored so there’s a decent chance that tomorrow will be Dishonored 2 (hey, if it was free via Prime then it’d make sense)
Finished both of those twice, and Death of the Outsider too. Not sure why you’re mentioning those, neither were in the Epic giveaways. I already had Wolfenstein and Metro ones and played to death, those were. I suppose I already have most of the older stuff likely to be given away though, Tomb Raiders last year were the prize, I missed those.
Just saying the series is good.
Those and The Hitmans are peak-sneakathons for me, just got Far Cry 6, and I regard that as a series which you just can’t sneak (unless, I think FC4 was ok at it, but the rest, you couldn’t kill anything without EVERYONE knowing about it). The Tomb raiders (2 of the 3 I’ve played) filled that gap too.
Has anyone else started playing Death Stranding? I’m just wondering if there’s more to it than very long cutscenes and staggering around the beautiful scenery like I’m a UPS guy on a 3 day bender.
I have a couple of friends who swear by it as Best & Most Amazing Game Ever but both also say it’s a long 7-10hr burn to get to the Most Amazing Ever parts. I guess it’s a question of how objectionable you find the current game play and if beautiful scenery can sustain you for another X many hours.
It has been called a walking simulator.
The charm is subtle but it is not for everyone.
Free on Epic this week (yes, I think we are back to weeks again), is Dishonored - The definitive edition, I do remember going back to get dlc I’d missed for Dishonored, The Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches which are included with this, and enjoying those too.
They also have something which looks like an expansion or extra bits for some other game: Eximius - Seize the frontline, but might be a full game, I’m getting the idea from the cover art on the free games page which says “Season 3 Breakthrough”.
Kerbal Space programme and Shadow Tactics - Aiko’s Choice seem to be the ones for next week.
Guess they are now.
Of all the freebies this season I think these are by far the best.
Daymare: 1998 is free on GOG for the next 72-ish hours.
Despite the name, the game is from 2019 and not a GOG “classic” game
Dishonored 2 is in the Amazon Prime giveaway, and now apparently Dishonored 1 is the Epic giveaway.
Prime gaming’s January freebies are out now, they are: The evil within 2 (gog), Beat cop (gog), Breathedge, Lawn Mower Simulator, Chicken Police: Paint it red, Faraway 2: Jungle escape! (all amazon app native).
Lawnmower simulator? Really?
Those types of games are really reaching now.
That said, I’ve never played it. Maybe it is awesome. I doubt it though.
I thought the same thing of PC Builder, does it capture the cuts you get from the sharp bits, the cursing and swearing and two hours trying to clip that damn heatsink on, then the various beeps as things aren’t connected right? A job. An annoying job. What next? Arse wiping simulator?
Or fishing out that screw you dropped in the case? (maybe it does simulate that…not sure why that would be fun).
I almost bought lawn mower simulator. It seems really relaxing, similar to that truck simulator. Not that the truck simulator appeals to me.
More and more I’m realizing that the kind of game I like most of all is 3D survival crafting. I don’t even really care about story. I think I would have liked raft even more than I do now if I had started playing before they added any story. I just like playing what I used to derisively refer to as “Barbie Dreamhouse.”
Raft started pissing me off with how clunky and difficult it is to place piping on your raft, but once I came up with a design I liked I was way more into it than ever. Still going strong.
The only game I have significant hours in other than Subnautica and Raft is City Skylines. The body count I get in an hour of gaming has an over/under of 0.5.
But then I occasionally change it up with mindless arcade fare like Geometry Wars and Vampire Survivors, so I do squeeze in a little mass murder here and there.
