Free tax preparation

secure.tax-engine.com will let you prepare and e-file your taxes for free but you have to enter their site through the IRS website to get it for free; also, the income limit, $10,000-
$50,000 refers to your Adjusted Gross Income, not just your “income”; e.g. if you had earnings over the limit but a stock loss or small business loss, you could qualify. Also, if you had adjustments, like alimony, that reduced your income.

I’m posting this because their software is not too friendly and you have to know what forms you want if it’s anything outside of the very basic. So, I spent two hours doing my return, got to the end, and they wanted $30.00; so I emailed and that’s when I found out I had to enter through the IRS site.

So, just posting for general information.

The name of the forum is General Questions, not General Information.
