Freezing/updating problem on my computer

I’ve been using Windows 10 on my new computer for as long as I’ve had it, mainly because, well, that’s what came with it, and I have to say…on the whole, it’s really good. I’ve never had it crash on me even once, it doesn’t have the compatibility problems with applications or add-ons I’ve had all the time with past versions of Windows, and it’s fast and highly reliable. Actually, given my headaches with the IPad and IPad Pro, which I will not burden you with, it’s probably the best deal out there.

There’s just this one little problem I’ve had crop up recently, and of course I have no idea how it happened. In the past, whenever Windows or one of my applications needed to download something, it’d ask. For Windows, it’s actually force a restart at a certain day and time (keeping all applications and web tabs intact, thankfully). Now, however, it completely locks up…cursor freezes, everything becomes unresponsive…and only after I hard reset do I get the thing that needed to be updated or loaded. Most recently it was AllPlayer.

I looked through options but couldn’t find anything about setting up downloads. Could someone please help me on this? This seems like it should be an easy fix and I don’t have any better options for a computer right now.

Your PC locks-up when it tries to re-boot itself automatically to apply an update?

Does it work ok if you restart manually?

You can manage the schedule for the reboots if you want when Windows has a new update.

How long have you had this PC? How often do you turn it off and on? (daily, weekly, never)

Do you close programs before an expected re-boot or just leave everything open?

I see 2 settings here that might help: Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Advanced options

That’s exactly what I was looking for. I forgot that anything specific in Windows 10, you need to search for. Thanks!

(I had shut off automatic restarts because I didn’t want to risk losing all my browser tabs. Turned it back on and will do my best to make do with fewer tabs. I probably should anyway.)
