Thanks, friend! Thanks for a pleasant blue banner. Thanks for the soothing fonts.

You know, I contemplated buying out that banner for a while – I figured I could spare a couple of hundred bucks to get something different/funny up there. I clicked on the Online Rate Sheet (In the fine print at the bottom of some of the pages here) and it seemed to me that the cost for the advertising depended on the number of hits to the site. I abandoned the idea when I considered the potential number of hits could bankrupt me.

This is getting bizarre. There have been several threads about this “Friend of the SDMB” banner. I spend as much time here as the rest of you, and I have yet to see the damn thing.

This is awfully strange, though. Is UncleBeer the only member who’s not seeing the blue banner? And if not, who else isn’t? And what do they have in common with Unc?

I see the Trivia banner sometimes. Not every time, but I have seen it. It’s nice.

I’m not seeing the banner today, but I did see it last week when it was new.

Looking at the rate sheet:

  1. Single Page Positioning - $30 Cost Per Thousand page views (CPM)

Maybe the friend paid $30 for a thousand views, and people aren’t seeing the banner now because the thousand views have been used up?

Chief, it doesn’t work like that. They don’t total the hits, then charge you. You tell them how much you want to spend, they schedule so many thousand and your ad goes into rotation with the other ads.

If enough members take out ads, maybe we won’t have to face paying a membership fee for the privilege of posting. So be creative! How about a ChiefScott’s Big Fuckin’ Boat ad?
