Friend's house smells like dog.

if the smell makes you sick then vomit on the dog.

If you doubt your house smells, why ask?
If your friends say no, why do you assume they are honest?

It is a fat butt question.

It’s not the eye. The eye doesn’t make it’s own tears.

The other eye does, the goopy one just gave out at some point.

Turns out neither of them get bathed all that often, but goopy eye has some skin allergies as well. Not to bathing - he’s allergic to grass.

I don’t think I can say anything about her not washing the dogs often enough. She’s a busy single mom. I can’t come up with a way to do that diplomatically. I asked some questions about the dog and my friend got a little defensive, so I changed the subject.

I just think goopy eye doesn’t get washed all that often because of the skin sensitivity. I"m not sure - he’s also about 75lbs and stubborn, so getting him a bath may be a challenge. He’s a shorthair - a bull terrier.

As much as I like my friend - I think you have to find a way to keep your pets groomed. She takes good care of them otherwise.

Looks like I’ll be keeping my mouth shut, which facilitates me holding my breath. All I know is, if it was my house, I’d want to know.

There is a big difference between a house that stinks and one that might smell of pets. I’m having trouble figuring out why you don’t get the distinction. Do you just assume that any pet smell must be a stink?

I’m having a hard time imagining a pet smell that isn’t a stink.

 Your cat(s) stink? No pleasant or neutral smells at all?

On your next visit look at the dog and ask, “such a nice dog, when did he die?”

Yeah, that’s gonna be a problem. It takes two of us to bathe Sadie, and she’s 55 pounds and actually likes her bath. It’s still a major operation, what with cleaning the tub and the bathroom when we’re finished.

Whatever you do, don’t suggest Febreze. I Febrezed Boomer once after he rolled in something dead, just for a quick fix until I could get him in the tub. It took away the stink but his hair fell out. Says right on the label, “Don’t use on pets”, but I didn’t read the label. His hair grew back.

I haven’t looked at pet sites, but there might be a dry shampoo for dogs, something that can be brushed on. ??

Be glad it is dog, I had a friend who actually had no sense of smell, and his place reeked of ferret. It got into everything, his clothes, his furniture… my clothes when I visited him.

I ate a piece of toast at his place once, the BREAD tasted like ferret smell.

I never said anything like that. I just agreed with Cat Whisperer that people sometimes ask questions they don’t really want a frank answer to.

And this side conversation isn’t helping the poster with the friend with the sick dog.

Well, actually you did say something like that, and it was in a response to me. Yes, there are people who just want to be reassured rather than be told the truth, but I am not one of those. My saying that I am sure my house doesn’t stink (stink - to emit a strong offensive smell) doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want a frank answer if I asked you if you could smell ( smell - to perceive the odor or scent of through the nose by means of the olfactory nerves; inhale the odor of) pets in it.

Now, if you are one of those that thinks that any smell of a pet stinks, then I most likely wouldn’t have you in my house in the first place, if for no other reason than I prefer an unbiased answer…

Then why respond? Besides, it might help, if it turns out that the OP thinks all dogs stink - it may help her understand why her friends doesn’t have a problem with the way her dog smells.

The only thing about my cats that smell is their litterbox and their tuna breath after they’ve been eating catfood - neither of those are pleasant smells to me. I’ve never smelled anything from a dog that was pleasant, either - I’ve smelled wet dog, dog in need of a bath, dog crap, dog breath - none of those thrilled me.

You’ve never smelled a dog that just came inside from lying out in the sun. They smell like sunshine!

Funny, I thought it smelled more like updog.

Hmm, it’s possible the cats smell like sunshine too - I’ll have to sniff them this summer and see if I smell it.

What does that mean?

My cat smells like sunshine almost always, with an undertone of talc? That’s not quite right as it’s not that sweet, but talc is what it makes me think of.

Honestly, why would anyone have pets if they thought that every odor they create is obnoxious?

Clean puppy feet smell like corn chips.

That may or may not be a good smell to everyone.

My cats smell like nothing 99.99% of the time. Maybe I have the “doesn’t smell like sunshine and talc” breed.
