Fries or Rings?

One off? The onion rings.

But if I was buying the same meal every day, I would probably get fries instead of the onion rings 70/30.

When you order onion rings at the Tip Top Cafe in San Antonio, TX, thisis what you get. And they are every bit as good as they look. Yum!

Oh, yeah! They were the only reason to seek out Tony Roma’s. The BBQ was garbage, but the onion loaf…yummy!

That should read “wife.”

I voted for number 3, but only because my preference is places like Johnny Rockets where you can get both. If I had to choose, it would depend on the place. Places with home made, beer battered rings? No contest, that’s what I want. Places with good shoe string french fries, cooked properly (golden and crispy)? Well, I’ll pick that. If they have both…I’ll take both. Extra money? Pshaw!..that’s why I work, so I can have fries AND rings if I want. :stuck_out_tongue:

I chose fries. I like onion rings better, but I prefer fries as my side. I enjoy eating onion rings on their own. I also like onion rings as a treat ever so often. I could gobble down fries any old time and like them all the same.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. A sandwich requires a potatoesque side. Onion rings are a meal unto themselves.

Fries alost evrey time.

Unless I’m at Sonic, then it has to be onion rings. Food of the gods it is.

At any point of quality, I prefer onion rings. Now, others do have a point that you can get tired of onion rings, so if I had this option every day, I’d mix it up some. Unless the onion rings come with that garlic horseradish sauce-- Even the best fries can’t compete with that.

Both, at The Varsity

Onion rings. French fries are boring.

They still look too thick. The Platonic Ideal of onion rings of my youth were the ones you could get at A&W - thin, crunchy golden perfection.

“Frings” is sounding better and better to me.

I used to love Tony Roma’s version, but for some reason I don’t go for the loafs (Famous Dave’s, etc) any more. I’m partial to thicker-cut rings…more onion-y flavor that way. The worst sin of preparing rings is over doing it on the batter. I’ve been places where the rings are more like onion doughnuts. Ugh.

My local favorites are from Armadillo Willy’s and Race St. Seafood Kitchen. The best I’ve ever had were from the Red Box Car in Red Lodge, MT.

I’m with Equipose: tots!

I rarely eat fries, just not a big fan. A very few places do them well, but I tend to stop at Sonic on occasion just for the tots. With the choices given, I’d choose well made onion rings. I also like tempura dipped asparagus, zuccini, cucumbers, mushrooms and green beans. If I’m going to have fries, I like extremely thin cut, crispy, hot ones (Steak ‘N’ Shake fries when they’re hot out of the fryer) or have a light tempura batter. I prefer sweet potato fries to even that though.

Fries. I have had me some yummy onion rings, don’t get me wrong, but yeah.
French fries. Lots of salt, some malt vinegar, hot sauce, and ranch to dip the mess in.
Yum.

Fries lend themselves to variety a lot more than rings do.

Fries. I don’t like onion rings.

This thread inspired me to have fries for dinner tonight (The wife is out of town.) I made a killer fry sauce with habanero ketchup, mayo and a touch of Tiger Sauce for zing.

Onion rings. I squish them so they fold at both ends and then dip, dip, dip. Barbeque sauce, mustard, or even marinara. Now I’m hungry, and just had a batch of good rings last Monday night!

Onion Rings.

French Fries are on the few popular items of junk food that I do not like too much. And also potato chips.

Wish all junk food was that way.

Yes, the squish, fold and dip maneuver! BBQ sauce is the best but I’ve found ketchup with pepper sprinkled on it will do in a pinch.
