Frig [refrigerator] problems

Ice cubes taste bad and smell. Inside of frig smells like nail polish remover. Any help out there? I have read all the threads out there previously and then they just stop…never what the final result was…has anyone figured out what this is??:frowning:

Since we probably can’t figure this out unless we come over to your house, let’s move this to IMHO. Title edited to indicate subject. Please use descriptive thread titles.

The title was descriptive, but misspelled. (The OP should have spelled it ‘fridge’, then everyone would know what it was.) I got here from GQ (where it has the original title) and read ‘frig’ as a euphemism such that the title translated to ‘To hell with problems!’ :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway… I think a refrigerant leak smells like nail polish or certain kinds of plastic (like they make beach balls out of). If the fridge is working harder to stay cold, or if it won’t stay cold at all, my bet is a refrigerant leak.

.

Nail polish remover is acetone.

How a refrigerator can make acetone is an interesting problem.
If you can empty the thing, clean every nook and cranny in it and still have it producing acetone or the smell of acetone, you have a serious problem

Big question: Is the fridge worth enough money to have it fixed, or do you find another fridge?

Some type of mold/mildew? I know there’s something growing in the vent system in my wife’s car and the AC always smells to me like liquid paint.

I must say that I had different expectations for this thread based on original title.

The fridge isn’t making acetone. Some refrigerant fluids can smell like acetone.
