Fringe 2/3/09 "Transformation"

Well, we are back to the main storyline rather suddenly.

I liked how they cut away after the “monster” thingy broke out of the plane bathroom. This is a pretty good episode so far.

I’m finding it hard to weave the various threads together, but this was a good one.

Ugh, those teeth falling out reminded me of way too many nightmares I’ve had… ::shudder::

I’m liking Walter’s son more and more - the female lead, I could really do without, though.

In what universe would he (a civilian) be allowed to accompany her on that raid?

Really good episode. I’m glad we’ve got some closure on the John Scott-in-Olivia’s head storyline, but it kind of seemed like they rushed things in this episode (all new antagonists–we haven’t heard of Conrad before, have we? We have seen the discs before–I wonder if they still have a part to play). Anyhow, it was a good arc, but I’m looking forward to them moving forward with other stories. The downside is no more Olivia in her underwear in the isolation tank.

I agree that the way they cut away right after the monster broke loose on the plane was a good decision. Sometimes just a glimpse like that is much more terrifying than an all out rampage where we see everything. But I did feel a little unsatisfied when the other guy didn’t transform later in the episode.

Anna Torv is good in her role when they keep to character-based plotlines, but when they get all ham-handed with her sexy (like the officer hitting on her in that one out-of-town ep) it ruins her vibe.

Pacey’s won me over about 80%, but I still think he looks like he’d fit in better on Entourage when they put him in a suit.

Walter’s gold, and he was underused this episode.

Anyone else sick of Charlie?

Did anyone else catch that Conrad’s last name was Moreau? Dr. Moreau, causing people to transform? I groaned at that one.

By the way, did anyone else feel that this was the “finale” for the show if they didn’t get renewed for a full season. I noticed it was indeed the 13th episode, which is probably where they filmed before full renewal.

The ending seemed finale like, even though it left major plot points open. Olivia has had some kind of closure with her dead fiance.

It’s odd. She’s a good looking woman for certain, but she doesn’t really exude “sexy” or “hot” or any of those. Maybe it’s just that she’s wearing a sports bra, but I’ve never found her more fun to watch while scantily clad than fully clad.

I like the fact that they have a heroine who’s attractive, but not glamorously so. It lends a certain air of credibility to a show that’s already knee-deep in fantastical premises.

Kind of like Scully, especially in the first few seasons of X-files.

I like Charlie. I’m glad that she’s working with someone who takes her at her word instead of continually doubting what he sees. That’s one thing that I hated about Supernatural, at least the first season: There’s no way Dean should have any reason to doubt Sam saying things like “I think I had a premonition last night.” Sure, there’s no way that could happen!
