Quite a story - glad he’s been able to turn his life around so well, and so helpfully for others: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2017/04/21/bank-robber-turned-georgetown-law-professor-is-just-getting-started-on-his-goals/?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-main_georgetown1100am%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.87c263a6eee9
It is not surprising that the individual did it. It is surprising that our society let him. Any more, it’s a one-strike-you’re-out mentality.
Where I live, you can’t even lease an apartment with a felony conviction. Expunging convictions are the new golden eggs being gathered by lawyers. The law convicts with the right hand and expunges with the left, in a growth industry.
That’s a great story.
Off-topic, but one has to wonder what the judge’s parents were thinking. Your last name is Kopf and you name your son Richard?
One strike? He robbed 5 banks. 5 is an out in any game.

It is an amazing story. Being able to draft a successful cert petition to the Supreme Court without any legal training is remarkable.
The number is a trivial detail. Nowadays, you are out after ANY strikes.
Well, no bank robberies are good, but five looks a lot worse than one if you otherwise have some redeeming characteristics to be considered at sentencing.
