From e3 with love (E3 conference stuff!)

Well Sony just dropped the bomb on MS. They will fully support trading games. You buy the disc, you own it. No internet connection required either.

Man they are really doing a number on Microsoft.

They ARE putting multi-player behind a paywall though. As well as game updates and cloud saves apparently.

Don’t confuse online nerd rage with actual consumer preference.

I know, right? Everybody knows that this generation of consoles will be a complete disappointment and people are going to finally wake up and smell the PC they built themselves for less than whatever a console costs. EA will go out of business for sure because PCs double in power every other week. Then they’ll be sorry!

I just read this. Yeah…so will Microsoft have to do the same, then?

Oh my god. $399.

MS is done for.

At least they still have Excel.

And it’s a PC exclusive!

Well, when it comes to cutting-edge consoles that cost several hundred dollars apiece, the online nerd rage community is sort of the target market.

I suspect that with used games and the $399 price point, Sony is going to win this particular console war.

Agreed. Remember when the 3DS crushed the Vita before the Vita was even released? This is going to be like that, except it’ll be even more embarrassing for MS because the two systems are launching at the same time.

I love the Xbox 360 controller and I love the Achievements system, but fuck it, the PS4 looks leagues better than the Xbox One.

Nah. You’re mixing up the groups. Their target demographic is “hardcore gamers” (whatever that means), which isn’t the same as “people who like to post trolly things about Microsoft and/or Sony.”

I’ve been keeping my mouth shut for obvious reasons, but that was exactly the price point I’d previously heard being discussed internally. People in my office were somewhat worried after MS went out at $499 that the execs would decide to make a last minute increase, but fortunately they stayed the course.

I miss G4 tv.

MS might still do well with kids/families and casual gamers. Sure seems like Nintendo left that door open for somebody.

Sony’s relatively low price isn’t so low outside the US. It’s AU$549, which sounds like bullshit to me, seeing how the US and Aussie dollars have been at parity for a while now.

How to share games on the PS4.

The Venn diagram of these two groups is close enough to being a circle that you would need professional drafting equipment to tell the difference.

So what kind of deal with the devil did Sony make to get all that GDDR5 at that price point?

Yeah. I’m sure I’ll end up with both systems because I’m greedy but the PS4 sounds positioned to take back the console market by force. I see no good reason for the average cash strapped gamer to get the x1 over the PS4.

I like it. Microsoft will have to do the same, I think.

I don’t think they can. Microsoft has gone with a model where games that you buy on disk are installed to the hard drive. So if they don’t use some sort of online verification, they’ve opened themselves up to widespread copying of games.
