Yeah. It is fair to say she lacks experience (though I don’t that is terribly important), but she doesn’t lack cunning or gravitas. We wouldn’t know her name if she lacked those traits.
Ossoff is a fine candidate, but he is not nor is anyone else a must to nominate. There are a any number of fine candidates. I’m not sure Ossoff is even the best candidate among senators in Georgia. That is a good showing for him on the betting markets though..
There have been a lot of primaries (like WI Gov) where the betting markets still completely missed on election night. Consulting tea leaves and entrails is more useful.

Anyway. She owns the progressive lane right now. And progressive candidates are in ascent. If you’re thinking it will be a progressive you bet on her.

What does Michelle Obama have to do with absolutely anything? Even if we’re going to nominate people with no political experience, then I’d still put her behind Taylor Swift and Oprah Winfrey and a bunch of other folks.
Who, to be clear, are also not on my list, because I don’t think we should be discussing people without political experience.
Besides, we already have enough nepotism in politics.
Simple fact is that Michelle is a political animal and Oprah/Swift etc aren’t. She, like Hillary before her, would have been a strong recruit for a lesser political office if she stayed single.
Her resume as an attorney and public servant would have easily made her a highly qualified candidate for a congressional seat. I love the Tortured Poet Society but song person, or TV show person doesn’t exactly have the same knowledge base. For the same reason Howard Schultz or Mark Zuckerberg (back when he was cosplaying liberal) have no business running for president. They found one thing they excelled at, and that success likely won’t carry over anymore than Michael Jordan trying to play baseball.
Michelle also gave the most electric speech of the 2020 and 2024 DNC.
All of this is to say she actually would make a great candidate, but she’s also exactly the kind of person who we won’t see run for office specifically because politics is messy, cruel, and malicious.
The advantage many celebrities have is that the parasocial relationship so many have with them translates into connection. Generally speaking they became successful as celebrities because they have the ability to connect. And having that broad connection is what so many of those who would otherwise be extremely effective in office are missing as candidates.
Not sure how to rank the actual likely contenders by that skill? AOC is supposed to connect well. Harris definitely does not. I suspect that skill matters more to winning than any policy they endorse, or experience they possess.
Yes. That some praise AOC as a candidate while deprecating Michelle just shows that … perspectives differ.
And don’t overlook that if Michelle Obama were POTUS, there’d be an above-average First Husband she might draw on for occasional advice.
OK, fine, a House seat. That is, in fact, one of politics’ entry-level positions. I’d have no problem with her (or Swift or Winfrey) running for that. Still has nothing whatsoever to do with the Presidency.
And I’m not convinced that Michelle Obama is more of a political creature than Taylor Swift is. I expect that Swift probably will run for office, in the next decade or so.
And, so? Any Democrat who won the Presidency would also be able to ask Barack Obama for advice. You don’t need to be married to someone to talk to them.
What a silly take. Michele lived in the White House for 8 years. She talked to and advised the president everyday. She had her own initiatives. She was a big part of his campaigns and has given numerous political speeches and interviews throughout the years. She isn’t going to run so it is a moot point, but saying she doesn’t have a political experience is ludicrous.
Nope. Wasn’t true for Hillary Clinton, and isn’t true for Michelle Obama. Being married to someone is not a qualification for any job.
Well Hillary isn’t running so going off topic here, but using the person who used her White House experience to become a a Senator and then eventually a Sec of State and Presidential nominee as an example of that experience not counting is certainly a choice.
And her becoming a Presidential nominee was most definitely a mistake by the Democratic party.
Not because of her lack of experience or executive competence though; it was her being a horrible campaigner who was disliked by so many that made her a poor choice.
She was disliked due to endless hate and propaganda campaigns by the GOP, Russia and Progressives of her own party.
But aside from being disliked by all of one party and half of the other, she was a great candidate, right?

I want a Democratic candidate who is going to get into office, stomp MAGA unmercifully until it crawls away, broken and bleeding, and ensure no one even whispers the name “tRump” for the next three generations. (I was going to say ten generations, but I decided to be realistic). As much as I like AOC, I just don’t see her having the cussedness for that. I don’t want someone who is smart and educated and has political experience – we’re hip-deep in those. I want someone who will make the GOP whimper, fearful that they will get exiled from this nation if they so much as sneeze off-key.
