Frontrunners for Democratic presidential nomination in 2028

Yeah, sure, why not.

“Lyin’ Paul Atreides and the Failing Bene Gesserit claim he’s a natural-born Caladanian. I sent my investigators to Wallach IX to find his mother’s long-form birth certificate and I will be revealing a major discovery in two weeks!”

Lmfao. “You know he’s got those ghola eyes, don’t you? It’s just terrible. Trying to hide them, but it’s those ghola eyes…”

Man, if I had a dollar for every time you said something like this over the past year, I’d be richer than Musk.

It’s been true the whole time as well. Trump is a force of nature, to be sure. All joking aside, he truly has an amazing amount of stamina to push through all kinds of events when he is clearly not doing well in multiple dimensions.

But Death is an even greater force of nature than he.

Except it (being Trump’s bad health, mental and physical) has not had the political effect that you have claimed - over and over and over again - that it will have. Sure, he’s gonna die some day; so shall we all. That’s not a prediction, it’s a fact. Continuing to assume that Trump’s mental and physical health is going to limit him, render him ineffective, or stop him is a fool’s game.

I don’t agree. I think his physical and mental state is greatly impacting politics right this second. It is, without question, a major reason, probably the No. 1 reason, why he has turned over the keys to Musk and is barely watching what the nazi is doing.

Moreover, his physical debility is, thankfully, limiting the damage he can do. You know this guy is spending a huge percentage of his time at Mar-a-Lago, right?

You need merely open your eyes. Also, he’s 78. It’s not a big “assumption” to suppose that he will be doing worse a year from now.

That said, a lot of Trump’s power comes from his being a figurehead for fascist impulses. He does a lot of damage just sitting there, staring with his frog eyes into space. The greatest blessings will occur when the eyes no longer stare.

It all depends on who if anyone has any restraining influence on the minions/organ-grinders who are actually coming up with and carrying out all these orders, and whether what follows on A Certain Event would make any difference.

Well, in some ways yes- but-

Elon Musk’s status as the world’s wealthiest person is in no danger of changing. But since mid-December, the tech titan’s net worth has declined by more than $100 billion, or approximately 25%, as a sell-off in shares of Tesla, his electric car maker, has accelerated in recent weeks.

Right.

I’ll just link to this post from a previous thread and let others judge for themselves: How can Donald Trump win at this point? - #1314 by ShadowFacts

Moving this conversation closer to the topic of the thread, I think Democratic candidates and party leaders should definitely NOT be assuming that Trump will be a spent force in 2028, even if he himself is in ill heath. And if he is dead by then, it will just be be Vance/Trump Jr. attempting to carry the banner of Trumpism. They (Trump/MAGA) have created the all-time winner of grifts worth BILLIONS, and you can try to pry it from their cold, dead hands. Thinking that Trump is damaged and therefore less dangerous is … let’s say, not a good strategy.

Physician, heal thyself.

I think it’s humorous that you and others on this board hold me to a higher standard than talking heads in the actual media who get paid to do this and have access to, you know, real resources that I don’t, but it’s flattering in a way.

I think we’re going to be in a completely different political world in 2028. We may not even have the same system of government by then. Nevertheless, ceteris paribus, I agree with you.

One reason that we need a radically different system of government. It’s been hacked by the con artists.

Oh he’s damaged and dangerous alright. He’s damaging to everyone right now, including his constituency of rich people and big corporations. No one is going to want this mutherfucker around for much longer.

Thanks again for putting me on that pedestal. The view up here ain’t bad!

But what, I should open my eyes and see that Trump is in great shape, ready to rock ‘n’ roll for decades to come?!

You reminded me of something.

Then, when We decreed (Solomon’s) death, nothing showed them his death except a little worm of the earth, which kept (slowly) gnawing away at his staff: so when he fell down, the jinn saw plainly that if they had known the unseen, they would not have tarried in the humiliating penalty (of their task).
Qur’an 34:14

Same moral to the story as in Mario and the Magician by Thomas Mann: the illusory nature of state power—all it takes to topple the fascist state (symbolized by the magician) is for the workers (symbolized by Mario) to realize it.

In fiction, it was Mario who fired the gun that took down the oppressor. But in real life, it was Luigi.

Moderating:

This thread has been going off the rails for awhile. Musk, Trump, Trump’s death, even Dune references. Stop now and let’s get back on track to discuss front runners for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028. Anything else belongs in some other thread.

Two of them on the same ticket. Hasn’t been done since '96.

At this point I’d say it’s about 100% that AOC runs either for president or for Schumer’s seat. Maybe both at once like Lieberman did in 2000 when he was Gore’s running mate and running for reelection in CT.

I think it would be wiser for her to primary Schumer. Still not convinced it would work but it would be interesting.

That’s what I lean towards as well. My preferences for 2028 are Pritzker, her, and Walz in that order, but I could also honestly see Pritzker primarying Durbin.

Yup about Pritzker vs Durbin. I still think Rahm may go that route but I think Pritzker has a better shot.

Pritzker is very much hated in Southern Illinois (COVID) but it hasn’t been an issue so far and I doubt it would be if he ran for the Senate.

A quick Google search tells me that the greater Chicago metro accounts for about 60% of IL’s population, so if Chicago Democrats like him (and I assume the majority of IL’s Democrats are in Chicago) then he probably has a good shot.

The city and suburban Cook County are pretty deeply blue; the collar counties are a mix, but there are a number of suburban House districts which elect Democratic representatives. It’s more than enough to offset the rest of the state, which is pretty red.

As kenobi_65 mentions the city and suburban Cook are pretty blue and the suburban counties have shifted to be more of a close mix favoring the Democrats. Which explains why Pritzker has been able to win 2 terms.

Yet the GOP elected a Gov as recently as 2015. And before that they held the office from 1997-2003. So there is a history of things going back and forth.
