I can see that also.
As a very slight hijack, what about Pete as VP? Not with Mark Cuban, though. That would spawn too many silly songs (The call me Cuban Pete) and memes (or maybe that would be ok?)
Oh, I had totally forgotten about him.
I think this would be a good topic for another thread, but, in brief, can you name a name or two?
Mark Cuban is a talker and a theorist (i.e., makes propositions about politics, economics, business, etc.), and Taylor Swift is not. If anything, she’s been coy about her political leanings. I suspect that this tendency comes from both not wanting to antagonize fans and not being inclined to think in political terms (I don’t see anything that even hints at the political in her song lyrics). Further, she cultivates a youthful image and doesn’t try to come across as a “serious adult” (which isn’t to say she seems unserious to me; she seems to be going for understated and mysterious in her presentation and is quite successful, IMHO).
So she would have to start talking and behaving in a very different manner in order to play the political game. Now could she run simply on fame, wealth, and popularity? Possibly. But here again the Fred Thompson effect could be in play. I don’t think it would click.
Yeah, I think Pete as the wonky sidekick could potentially work.
It would lose votes in the midwest and south. sadly.
I was glad when John Fetterman won because more Democrats, but he is a dumb ape. His stroke was due not to some random tragedy but because he has atrial fibrillation and did not take his medication for five frickin’ years, pretty much demanding such an outcome for himself.
His bellicose, black-and-white position on Israel is also unappealing. His nose up Trump’s ass rejectable. Finally, I can see not doing the whole suit and tie thing, but he just looks like a slob with the whole hoodie shtick.
For me, it’s a big no thank you, but, trying to be objective, I think he just doesn’t come across as having gravitas and won’t strike the electorate as being presidential material.
While I agree with all your points on Fetterman, I think the electorate has proven they no longer care about “residential material.”
What the heck is “gravitas”? Did W have it? How do you get it?
Does Taylor Swift even want to be president?
Taylor Swift would be an awfully young candidate. Indeed, she only just turned 35, the minimum age.
You know, she’d be a terrible president- at this stage anyway. But she is smart and charismatic, I could see her as some sort of Special ambassador or even on the Cabinet- later.
You made a bit of an apt quip there, friend!
In terms of the presidency and IMO: Seeming like a serious person instead of a fool. Seeming to have inner substance instead of vacuity. Seeming like a leader instead of a follower.
Mostly not.
Living life a bit, overcoming challenges, playing the adult, and serving as a leader.
Biden has it. trump does not.
I would add ‘developing expertise’ to @Aeschines’ list.
They no longer care if the candidate is a Republican. But I question whether they want a Democrat to behave like a Republican. If voters tire of MAGA, they will want gravitas. And if they still want a buffoon, I they will want the real thing, not a Democratic Party imitation.
Apologies, I was writing in a hurry and quite clumsy. I should have indicated that I was being rhetorical ( I think). The ascension of Trump and his sycophants has made me doubt that gravitas is important or desirable at all to voters anymore. Thank you for your reply though.
I think this has something to do with the case he covered up involving a woman who “committed suicide” by stabbing herself in the back of the head twenty times. I will support any Democratic nominee in general but if the next one is Shapiro I’d like to hear a really good explanation for what went on here. There’s a decent article here that seems to be a pretty unbiased summary of the whole thing:
I believe the kids these days call it “rizz”. W did not have it. He had whatever the opposite of it is. Trump is worse. He pulls gravitas in from around him and destroys it - remember how Rudy Giuliani used to be “America’s Mayor”? As for how you get it I understand it to be a you have it or you don’t type of thing but there may be ways of building it if one is so inclined.
