I thought I’d link to two case of frozen on land people that have be restored to life in the last month. You hear about frozen drowned people being resurrected but not frozen land cases.
The first case was the lady in Duluth that fell and couldn’t get back up. She dragged herself as far as she could. She had no heart beat and reached a low of 60F body temperature. Duluth woman Freezing and alone, waiting to die
Yes, I’ve heard the emergency med docs at my hospital say that. I don’t think it made the news, but my hospital dealt with a case of a young man found outside last winter like these ones too. He ended up surviving and did fine.
Some hospitals are investigating if people found in cardiac arrest at a normal temp have improved survival if they are then intentionally kept at a cooler than normal body temperature in the ICU after being resuscitated, to protect their organs from the usual irreversible brain damage/death that most cardiac arrest victims suffer. From what I’ve heard, it appears to be a very promising avenue.
Now that’s truly amazing. I had no idea we were so close to “suspended animation.” With further research, this sounds actually feasible (and not very far off). Not sure about safe, but the applications in dire situations make this a definite possibility.
If perfected, we could seriously be looking at a method for practical space travel across long distances. One thing space has is plenty of cold. Then again, if it takes 100 years to perfect (so that risk of death or brain damage is acceptable), then surely the speeds at which we’ll be able to achieve in inter-planetary space will increase as well.
