Fruit/Vegetable skin-How beneficial?

I’ve always peeled the skin off of apples, I just don’t like apple skin. This has led numerous people to inform me that most of the nutrition of apples, and other fruit and vegetables, is found in the skin, so it’s important to eat it. How true is this really? Percentage-wise, how much of the nutritional value is found in the skin of a fruit/vegetable, compared to the flesh? I would be very interested to know this.
